YASNY
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) 4-2 on what looks like an error by burke. Looks like?
KevHead0881
Runs unearned. By the way, McCarthy's curve is better than advertised.
southsider2k5
Scratch Jaime Burke as a super utility guy. In short stints at each position he has an error at 3B and 1B this spring.

GoSox05
I think it's time for ozzie to quit dreaming that Burke can play third. There is no way he is going make it there. He has like 4 errors and only like 5 balls hit to him.

CWSGuy406
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Slider and cutter give him pitches with sideways movement instead of up to down movement. Its something to give the eyes a difference arc to think about. Yeah, a slider is a pretty filthy pitch, but if he can lear the two-seamer, won't he have the sideways movement? Err -- well, I dunno -- if it's a Colon like two-seamer, then that thing tails away from righties and in to lefties, but if it's a Derek Lowe-like two-seamer, that one is basically a sinker. I dunno, sliders tend to do the arm a lot of harm if thrown improperly. I'd rather have a B-Mac confident in his three pitches (four, with two variations of a fastball) then have him with a slider. Jabroni
2 unearned runs charged to B-Mac on an error by Jamie Burke at 1st base. B-Mac gave up his first walk in 9 innings. 4-2 Sox
Gene Honda Civic
He was looking pretty tired from the start of that inning. Still he was able to get out of it relatively unscathed.

GoSox05
I think we let Contreras start and see how he does. If sucks trade him and bring up Bmac. Or we could use him out of the pen.
GoodAsGould
well im sure right now they just want him to get the change up down for good, but maybe in the future it wouldnt hurt to learn a 4th pitch, i dont think they would do anything that would risk hurting him. YASNY
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) BMac gets out of it. Love that people get to see him on National TV. That's a damn good point. southsider2k5
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Yeah, a slider is a pretty filthy pitch, but if he can lear the two-seamer, won't he have the sideways movement? Err -- well, I dunno -- if it's a Colon like two-seamer, then that thing tails away from righties and in to lefties, but if it's a Derek Lowe-like two-seamer, that one is basically a sinker. I dunno, sliders tend to do the arm a lot of harm if thrown improperly. I'd rather have a B-Mac confident in his three pitches (four, with two variations of a fastball) then have him with a slider. The difference being the cutter moves in on a righty and the slider moves away from a righty/into a lefty. It gives him more chances to get in on righties or lefties. Whitewashed in '05
The question I have is why would you change what hes doing if hes doing ok as it is with his current pitches? From what I've read, he has pretty much mastered his 3 pitches, I would rather him have 3 pitches he can throw at anytime than adding 2 more and being shaky on those.
