The question I have is why would you change what hes doing if hes doing ok as it is with his current pitches? From what I've read, he has pretty much mastered his 3 pitches, I would rather him have 3 pitches he can throw at anytime than adding 2 more and being shaky on those.

Its not like if he learns two new pitches, he will loose command of the original 3. If the new pitches don't work for him he just will give them up. Its not a big loss if they don't work for him, because it isn't like he is committed to them or something. And if they work, he becomes that much more dangerous.

That's what I'm wondering. SS2k aluded to Coop wanting Mac to have some sideways movement, rather than up and down, but Stone said that his fastball seems to cut in on both lefties and righties (which is odd, but good).

I second that.  Contreras should be on a very short leash this season.

Some have even gone as far as saying "Contreras is the key to this season."

Those "some" have also been saying it for two months now.

Politte is back to serving up homers, but it was Vlad so I can't really complain.  Except that it was on an 0-2 pitch. :headshake

Fastball was supposed to be high, instead it was right over the heart of the plate.

Bye bye.

The difference being the cutter moves in on a righty and the slider moves away from a righty/into a lefty.  It gives him more chances to get in on righties or lefties.

The typical cutter is similar to a slider where a RHP throws it and it moves away from the RH hitter. It's basically a fastball with pressure on the middle finger. Some can throw it with pressure on the index finger and make it move like a screwball. But like a screwball very few can do it that way.

4-3 Sox.

Vlad is one of the best 0-2 hitters I have ever seen. He can hit anything, and hit it a LONG way. Dude is a freak of nature.

Vlad hits them out if there low and outside or even inside. It amazes me how he gets hits sometimes.

Has fields played well this sping? I havent been able to follow spring trainign this year.

Fields is no-where near MLB ready, regardless of how he's done in Spring Training.

This is sort of a bad thing, having these ST games on Comcast. Guys will go 12-20 and impress the hell out of people, even though they're clearly not ready for the majors. Fields is one case. I don't know how he's performed, but he still has to get a grasp on the strike zone before we start annointing him as our Scott Rolen.

Give him a full year at AA, see how he does. No need to rush him, even if Crede is performing sub-par...

Most importantly of all, Fields has to work on his defense at 3B.

:notworthy

Has he even spent a full year at Single-A yet? Let's see how he does there or Birmingham first. I say he's at least two years from being MLB ready.

I completely agree. I can live with a subpar Crede. I was just curious how he was playing.

Yeah, it's unfortunate Fields isn't closer to the show. Although Crede has made "improvements" in his swing, I've yet to see them.

He still has that looooooooooong, uneven swing. It's all goofed up.

As for Ozuna, I think you can hand him his regular season jersey.
