Texsox
Baseball doesn't have much at stake here, only the integrity of its used-car-dealer commissioner, the appearance of an all-time consumer sham, the suspected fraud of juiced superheroes and the culpability of play-dumb owners who milked The Steroids Era for billions of dollars, bigger television ratings and dramatic attendance surges. Yet on the eve of a congressional hearing designed to shed light on the syringes, the cheating and the health effects on America's youth, where are Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa -- the foremost subpoenaed sluggers clouded by innuendo? To no one's surprise, they continue to run from the truth like cowards, still hiding behind their attorneys and trying wiggle out of a high-profile court date they should welcome. Think about this: If Big Mac and Slammin' Sammy haven't used steroids, as both have maintained for years, nothing should be too difficult about flying to Washington, answering questions under oath before the House Government Reform Committee and documenting their innocence for eternity. mreye
Yes, he's right, but this concerted effort to destroy Sosa in this town by people that once loved him and worshipped the cork he walked on is pathetic. :headshake
YASNY
QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Yes, he's right, but this concerted effort to destroy Sosa in this town by people that once loved him and worshipped the cork he walked on is pathetic. :headshake Mariaotti was the leader of that band, too. Pauly8509CWS
Mariotti is right and although he's a flip-flopper, he makes sense and is basically saying what everyone else is "Prove It."
witesoxfan
When it comes to flip-flopping, Mariotti makes John Kerry look like Anthrax on the subject of KW. But he is right here. He is posing a rhetorical question of sorts to Big Mac and Samme, and it doesn't even get you thinking, because the sad truth is you already know the answer to the question. How sad is it that the season that ressurected baseball to the great game it is, 1998, was due to cheating? It will be a swift kick to the groin of the MLB.
