sec159row2
just a thought... why is everyone believing frank and doubting the others?? frank is just as capable of lying as the others... I don't believe frank took steriods, but what makes him more credible than the others?? do we just want to believe someone? and since frank is on our team he is the one we believe? what would other team boards be saying about frank? big guy... injury prone??? southsider2k5
A few things to respond. #1 Frank has been speaking out against steroids basically his whole career, and not just when it became a hot topic. #2 Frank has been huge his whole life basically. He played TE at Auburn as a freshman. You don't play football in the SEC as a small dude, especially as a glorified lineman. #3 his injuries are not a of a steroid nature. He tore a bicep diving for a baseball. He has had tons of foot and ankle problems, which is not unusual for a guy his size. The injuries you look for in a steroid abuser are things like pulled muscles and torn tendons. None of Frank's injuries fit the profile. #4 the size that Frank has added has been gradually over his 16 years in MLB. He never came to camp 30 pounds bigger one year over next. I would be crushed if it turned out frank was lying and sammy was telling the truth...

There is no way to tell 100%. His actions with the issue speak louder than anything. #2 He was obviously WAY better at baseball #3 Not when you tear it from the impact of the ground on a really bad diving technique. If he would have thrown it out it would be a different story. #4 It doesn't matter, if he was on roids he would have gotten a lot bigger, a lot faster. All of his gains have been slow, measured, and consistant. Not the huge bulk jobs that coincide with steroid usage.
KevHead0881
Guys like Bonds, Sosa and McGwire, who have denied the use of steroids, were never that believable. While they denied the use of steroids, they have either sidestepped the issue, and/or said they were against steroids in defense of their own case. I've never heard any of them speak openly and candidly about their stance against steroids. Frank, on the other hand, has been consistantly outspoken on the subject throughout his career. Either he's telling the truth, or he has predetermined an elaborate plan from the beginning of his career to speak out against steroids in order to cover up his own use. And based on the many ill advised comments he has made throughout his career, it's really hard to believe that Frank would be capable of doing so. As the Devil's advocate, I can understand what you are getting at with this. And yes, there is the possiblity that Frank could have been lying the whole time. It's just not very likely, nor would it make a lot of sense.
greasywheels121
Also look how players such as Sosa, Bonds, Giambi, McGwire, Palmeiro, etc. come off when the media asks them about steroids. They all share this demeanor about it. Frank's had that demeanor about his contract once, but never with the issues of roids.

KevHead0881
Wouldn't this get thread get more discussion in Pale Hose Talk? I mean, it does regard the Sox. No biggie, just a suggestion.
Kalapse
Frank Thomas: Auburn: 1989: 6'5" 245 LB Frank Thomas: Chi White Sox: 2005: 6'5" 275 LB A 30 lb weight gain over 15 years for a man of that size is normal. He has always been pretty muscular especially when he was in College. As a matter of fact he weight had become a problem a few years ago because of the amount of body fat he was carrying. I don't think a 2 lb a year weight gain is steroid related.
