Pablo Ozuna at 3B today

Wow, diving stop to his right, robs Ken Harvey of KC of a double, perfect throw to first.

Solid single up the middle too.

Williams talking about him in the booth now, said they've had their eyes on him for a couple of years, they scouted him along with Uribe (Colorado). Almost acquired him last year, Ozzie watched him play this winter, his Dominican league team had him moving all over the infield.

Hawk saying he watched Razor Shines throw BP to him, Ozuna was drilling the ball all over the field in conjunction where the ball was pitched.

Williams confirms Ozuna has a good chance to make the team, he's a good fit as a bench guy.

Ok, so are we saying he's a viable #2 behind Crede at 3B?  If so then the bench is pass FULL.

5 starters

6 pen guys

9 fielders

5 bench (Burke, Ozuna, Harris, Davis, Perez, Gload)

Davis needs to go.

We're only gonna carry 2 catchers at the beginning of the season so either Burke or Davis will not be on the 25 opening day. My money's on Burke starting the year in Charlotte and Davis being the backup, though trading Ben Davis is not out of the question.

It seems inevitable now, Valdez will be back in AAA for sure, with Ozuna as the bench guy. The only thing to watch now it seems is will Ben Davis be moved to get Jamie Burke onto the 25 man roster?

I've read that Valdez is out of options so the sox would lose him. So somewhere the sox will need to trade for a AAA SS.

I haven't heard that, but do the Knights still have Kelly Dransfeldt as well or did he leave along with the likes of Ryan Hankins?

Even if Kelly was w/ the sox, they'd still need a AAA SS. If the sox traded some of their pitching/borchard/ harris, that should be one of the first spots they fill.

There is still a lot of time left in spring training, different things can still happen.

Barring a trade, my guess is Ozuna makes the team based on his performance and what Williams said about him yesterday. My sense is they'll carry 11 pitchers and the last spot will come down to a 3rd catcher or an extra middle IF.

I still think there will be a trade which will clear things up.

I'd like to throw a wildcard out there.  Borchy.

http://baseball.espn.go.com/mlb/springStat...m=chw&year=2005

C Everett  .345A  11G  29AB 8R  10H  22TB  3D  0  3HR  13RBI

J Borchard    .241A  12G  29AB 7R 7H  21TB  2D  0  4HR  11RBI

T Perez        .250A 07G  20AB 3R 5H 7TB  2D  0  0        2RBI

I don't think Timo is a lock.

Timo one million. Borchard not one million dollars. But feel free to give me some other stats that favor borchard. I just love sample sizes.

How could he be out of options? His only MLB experience was last September.

Options have to do with being on a 40 man roster vs. strictly major league experience.

If a guy is on a 40 man, he is either an active player on the 25 man team, injured, or in the minors on an option assignment.

That's probably why Valdez is out of options.

He has not been very impressive this camp either, he's been making the plays defensively but has done little at the plate.

Agreed. Timo is a lock to make the roster just because of his $1 million salary. I could see Borchard getting dealt with his decent spring (mostly because of the power he has shown).

Do not agree with this.

Williams has already stated contrary in terms of the Harris/Iguchi competition.

While not wishing to plunge into the Timo Love - Timo Hate subculture of this board, I got the distinct impression from talking to Williams personally that he wants the best 25 guys on the roster, in terms of talent but also "fit".

They like Timo's fit on the team, and I don't see that changing for now.

He may not be a lock but don't you think he has an advantage because of his million dollar deal?

Fair question.

Personally, I think he has a huge advantage for the following reasons:

1. He's well suited for a bench role (mindset)

2. He can produce off the bench. Maybe not as well as this board likes, but he can produce off the bench.

3. He can play all three OF positions, again, maybe not as well as this board likes, but he can play all three spots.

4. I have to assume he's a good fit in the clubhouse because they wouldn't have signed him to another deal otherwise.

5. Harris has been playing a ton this spring which to me tends to back up KW's statements that 2B is a competition and $$ is not a factor, the best players are the most important factor (although I think Iguchi clearly is winning).

White Sox fans are well known for reading between the lines, looking for conspiracy theories, especially when it comes to $$. A more fair assumption for 2005 is they are trying to win now, expect to win now, and will make their personnel decisions accordingly.

I think Kenny was saying that BS about Willie to hype up his trade value. Iguchi is definately going to be the starter because of his salary.
