GoodAsGould
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Call me crazy. B-Mac holds his own, KW tries to sell Milwaulkee on the idea of trading Jose Contreras plus half of his remaining salary plus Brian Anderson and another prospect for Ben Sheets. And no I don't think Jose could handle being a closer. We all know what he's like with runners on base. Not a good situation for a closer or a reliever in general. how about Jose Contreras plus Jon Garland for Ben Sheets and maybe instead of out top 3 prospects they would take Honel or like Chris Young instead... a course we would pay some of Contreras contract but Sheets Buehrle Garcia B-Mac El Duque that would be amazing. lol and we would give them back Travis Hinton too Edited March 22, 2005 by SoxFan101
santo=dorf
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Also...you know that KW is already on the phones about a potential deal in the future...whether or not you like the thought of BMac being rushed. If he can come in and put up Greinke-esque numbers(not even that good), I can almost already see Contreras being shipped out. If BMac can put up Greinke/Buehrle numbers in his first year, Contreras will be out of here about as fast as Royce Clayton was when JM found him in tennis shoes on the bench(except it will be a trade and not a flat out release) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even if Contreras is pitching well? CWSGuy406
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) Even if Contreras is pitching well? If Contreras is pitching well, than, we're in one hell of a great situation, santo. At that point, I want B-Mac in the bullpen -- if he's pitching well, but not as well as Contreras/Garland. I'd think that Politte/Cotts would be the odd man out, at that point -- but I'm looking down a road that hasn't even been built yet, so it's pointless speculation. It would be great, though, if McCarthy dominates his first couple starts, Buehrle comes back, Garland and Contreras start picking it up because they got heat on their asses. It'd be one real, real nice situation to have... And, I think Texas could be a team that would actually take a good look at Contreras in a midseason deal, but that's here nor there at this point... qwerty
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) If this happeneds, Garland is the odd man Out.. Who the hell (other than KW) is going to trade for a Pitcher who is only "on" 1/2 the time, that makes 8 mil a year? NO ONE .. IMO.. Garland on the other hand has alot of upside, being young and cheap. Unless we include some good tier prospects, he is gone. Why would we trade garcia ( considering he is the only white sox pitcher that will be making 8 million this year). I think lots of teams would have interest in him but maybe that is just me. AirScott
sorry, but turning Contreras into a closer would be a terrible idea. his problem lies in lack of control and he meltdowns, a terrible combination for a closer. my theory for turning starters into closers depends how those starters do in the first inning. Contreras does his best pitching in innings 4-6 (.198 BAA), where hitters would usually start getting a good read on his stuff. I'd think a starter who is usually lights out in the first, but then later gets hit would be a better candidate to close. The only thing Contreras has to be a closer is the stuff. He issues far too many walks and then his head falls off and he implodes. He would be LaTroy Contreras.
