You know how about a trade that would be a three way trade that would send garland, cotts, and borchard to the reds for willie mo pena, then send pena to the nationals to the nationals for L. Hernandez or Z. Day. Jim Bowden is in love with W. Pena. I dont know, just specualation on my part.

this is interesting, i wouldn't mind this trade for Livan. Any other thoughts on this?

In the Cincy Newspaper today, they talk like Freel may get the starting nod at second over D'Angelo Jimenez.  No mention of him being possible trade bait.

I believe that Freel is coming off major knee surgery. Which is not good for someone who's main talent i s stealing bases. I'd much rather have Garland. Ryan Wagner is someone I would like to have, but other than that the Reds don't have much to offer us.

I'll take Griffey

Ken Rosenthal was on Sporting news radio and was talking about possible deals before the start of the season...

He mention that the Reds are scouting Jon Garland as well as a few other sox players but he fail to mention that who the sox might get in return..

Any Ideas who the sox would be looking at.

I could see the Sox looking at guys for AAA from Cinc. Like their SS from AA William Bergolla [from Venezuela]. Looks like he has speed and can bunt [with the 15 SH the last two yrs]

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/wil..._bergolla.shtml

Esp if Wilson Valdez is out of options, the sox will need some depth their behind Uribe and Ozuna

Bergolla is currently the Reds #8 rated prospect and can play 2b and SS. With Felipe Lopez locked into SS, and Jimenez floundering, Willie Harris could be decent trade bait for the guy.

Whoever the sox trade--Harris, Borchard, Diaz, etc--it should be for decent prospects who could play in AA or AAA this yr.

Willy Mo Pena (26HR 66RBI  22BB 108K  .259BA  .316OBP  .527SLG)

Joe Crede (21HR 69RBI  34BB  81K  .239BA  .299OBP  .418SLG)

Pretty close in a similar amount of games played.

knight those really arent all that close..

20 points in BA is pretty good, 26 in OBP, over 100 in slugging.. and Pena's OPS was .843.. Credes was in the low .700's

Pena is also younger, and has better speed than Crede, although I dont know how much more but its more..

If the Reds were smart, they would deal Griffey (If they could find anyone) and give Wily Mo full time PT.. because he looks like he could evolve into a pretty good hitter

#1- Freel = Great Player. Great insurance for Gooch and Crede.

#2- hammerhead johnson:

"Coming out of the big series in Cleveland in late July, the Big Hurt wasn't doing much for the first-place Chicago White Sox except leading the American League in hitting, runs, walks, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, extra-base hits, ropes, bombs, shortstops moving out of the way of nuclear ground balls, and number of clubhouse boys sent running for more double-strength Mylanta.

Try this on for size: This year, barring a protracted strike, Thomas could break Babe Ruth's records for runs, walks, and extra-base hits in a single season. He could become the first man since Ted Williams to have an on-base percentage of .500 or higher, and the first one since Williams with a slugging percentage above .700. Now here's a sentence without Ruth or Williams: Thomas looks as if he'll be the first man to bat .350, hit 50 home runs, and walk 150 times in one season- period. Oh, and he's after the Triple Crown and Roger Maris's 61 home runs, too.

Basically, he is scaring baseball right out of it's Bikes. Somebody asked Cleveland Indian manager Mike Hargrove the other day how to pitch to Thomas, and he said "Throw it 10 feet in front of the plate and hope he doesn't hit it on the first hop". Already New York Yankee manager Buck Showalter has said he would consider walking him with the bases loaded. "I wish they'd let us put on the masks and shin guards", Cleveland Indians pitcher Dennis Martinez says. "Pitchers shouldn't be left out there alone with him"."

I much preferred that little blonde chick TRU had in his avatar recently, the one with the big eyes who was glancing sideways. I never did ask who she was, she looks familiar to me, but I am very removed from the pop culture scene

Is she a singer or something?

Just a hunch but if the Sox move Harris and/or Borchard they will try their damndest to make sure it's to the National League.

I don't see Harris going to Cincy, 2B is Freel's best position and they have D'Angelo Jimenez. But who knows. Maybe they're watching Harris play CF and that's attractive to them.

Hey, thanks man. I think it was Cheat who posted an image of the 1994 Sports Illustrated Mag with Frank on the cover around this time last year, so that was what inspired me.

Danny Graves is in the bottom half of closers in baseball but he is much better than Politte. In our situation, we're better off with Cliff. IF my team needed a closer and it was Graves at 6 or Cliff to close at one million-there is no doubt that Graves is the better guy

For five million dollars different you would take graves? :puke

Umm, if he puts up Sosa like numbers I'd gladly take Pena.  I'm talking about that few year run Sosa had where he was the best or one of the best offensive players in baseball.

This is ego aside.  But if the Sammy Sosa from 98 was still around I'd take him on the sox any day of the week.  As much as I hate the assclown he was amazing during that run.

Now it's obviously not a guarantee...because roids did help Sosa...but Sosa, even off roids, was still probably going to be a .300 35 100 .900 type hitter his entire career.

Which is one of the reasons that, if given the chance, I would get this guy and make room for him, quite honestly. I'm not going to dismantle the team, but if we fall out of it, I wouldn't mind trading Dye to a team that needs a decent bat and maybe a RFer, and then trading like Garland for him. That's not something I'd do now, but, like I said, if we fell out of the race, I would make that trade.

He is not even a career .300 hitter with steroids. So your saying without them he would have a better average? Find that very hard to believe.

You sure couldn't tell from his first two years with the Sox, he hit .233 15 HR and .203 10 HR.

Gulp, maybe we should think again about dumping JoBo.
