aboz56
This is not centered on anything specific, although I did just recently change jobs, but I have often found it is hard for me to endure change without thinking negatively about it or overanalyzing things or if I made the right decision. In other words, I second guess myself quite often after a substantial change to something in my life. For those of you out there who are wiser than myself, I'd like your two cents and perhaps some ideas to endure change easier. It's a part of all of our lives and everyone has to go through it. This should make for some interesting discussion, feedback and ideas. Thanks in advance.
Rex Kickass
Change is never easy, even when its for the best. I'm in a situation where most major things in my life are in flux at the moment - car, apartment, job. Although it all seems to be for the better, the amount of stress and worry it creates definitely has a depressing effect. Just do your damn best to stay positive and hopefully things will make themselves better. What's stressing you out about the new spot at work? Bad situation? I just moved to another store in a higher position, which I was happy about. I guess being out of my comfort zone and not really knowing anyone is the main thing that is doing it. Everything else in my life has remained the same, so I should be happy about that. Thanks for your positive words winodj and I hope things continue to get better for you. Rex Kickass
That always happens... I just turned down a job to get back into radio, because I knew the change was too much. I just got settled here, why would I wanna pick up and move to Louisiana for less money to start completely over... for the third time in two years? Try to sit back if you can and relax a bit. Test your waters, find out who your friends are around the office and then grow into it. The best part about work is that, there's 16 hours a day that doesn't involve it. southsider2k5
Major life change, even good ones, are well known as stressors. Job change, babies, marriage, etc are all stressful events even when they are for the better.

BridgeportHeather
How one can deal with change often gives a good indication of their character. Those who can withstand adversity and difficult situations through change are those who will be successful through their element of change. It always helps to have mini-goals throughout the way just to help ease yourself into your new position. May I ask, how different is your new position? The more major the change you want to make the more time you need to spend planning and weighing pros and cons. If you take the time to think things through then you are far less likely to regret your decision because it will have been an informed one. The main thing is now I am over a whole department in the biggest volume store in the entire district. It's one of the 10 biggest Staples stores in the entire country. So somewhat stressful in terms of sales pressure. Also have two guys that I am over who are in their 50's and are pretty set in their ways, which is going to take some getting used to. I think it'll be hard for them to take directions from a 22 year old.
IlliniKrush
This is a pretty interesting thread. I'm pretty similar to you aboz in that i overanalyze change and worry about it to the bitter end. The one thing that keeps me going is that i kinda believe in fate...along those lines, i believe that "things happen for a reason" That may be cliche, but i think it holds true. Of course, just my opinion. Another thing that i believe in is "God wouldn't give you anything you coudln't handle" So just keep your head up, try to relax if you ever feel stressed, and work through whatever situation comes to you. Believe in yourself and your abilities.

TheBigHurt35
QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) The best part about work is that, there's 16 hours a day that doesn't involve it. That's only true if you don't like your job. I try to restrict my analysis to forethought rather than afterthought. If you've analyzed your situation extensively prior to your decision and have made what you think is the correct decision based on the given information, there's no need to second-guess yourself. Of course, that's a lot easier said than done. The good news is that people typically learn to deal with stress better as they get older, so this will likely be less of a problem for you in the future. LosMediasBlancas
Changes I make for myself, I can handle. Changes that are forced upon me suck. I need more change. I have tendency to become very comfortable and complacent with things I should be acting on and so my life progresses slowly at times. I think it's a risk vs. safety issue with me. Like they say: no big risks? then no big rewards. What were we writing about again?

JUGGERNAUT
People naturally seek comfort zones. Change naturally threatens that. That applies to matters of education, home, work, play, love, religion, morals, etc.
