Censorship? Hardly. This board, and most boards are owned by individuals. You are posting here free of charge because somebody loves something enough to give people a place to discuss it, and other like interest. YOU are in somebody else's house. If you came into my house, my actual house, and started doing anything against my house rules, I would throw you out or shut you up. Not to be rude, but that is basically what it boils down to. The owner of this site wants it to be a certain way, if you break the rules of his house, he/she has trusted other people to watch and maintain the place.

In this day and age of the internet people seem to like to use the word "censorship", and it gets used wrongly all the time. If you send a letter into a magazine, it gets edited. It isn't "censorship", it is editing. That is what an editor is for. No author ever sees their first draft make it to publishing, and few writers ever do. The board is kind of the same way, these mods are just trying to follow the rules, and follow them the best that they can. If you don't like the "censorship" you will encounter on a board, get some money together, and start your own board.

I hit another site all the time. A group of people decided to break away and start a site free of "censorship". Within a month it was the most heavily moderated site I have ever seen, and within 5 months it was a ghost town. You might not like the editing, but it is what helps keeping people coming back.

Ditto Kid :notworthy

( since I've been hanging with the GOPerheads this week, I thought I'd try out the lingo and be a dittohead. )

There aren't many rules here but it's been a long standing one concerning nudity. It's not really that hard to avoid breaking it...

Oooops, I post naked all the time.....

Is there a webcam option on Soxtalk?  If not, WHY THE HELL NOT?

God we can barely keep the server running now, can you imagine the option of seeing Chisoxy or EvilJester naked? This place would be down more often than Monica in the Oval Office

Just calm down everyone. This site is quite good and I think everyone here gets along. Sometimes I delete posts, sometimes I edit them. Depends on what the situation is.

If its a string of attacks with two people going back and forth, I'm gonna hit the delete button. If its a poster saying or typing something inaprorpiate in a post and its just a one time deal, I'll just edit it out so the rest of the post stays and then tell them.

Simply put often times people may post something and not think its offensive based on content and it may bother people. Its basically intent and 99% of the time people aren't intending to cause problems or anything like that. We understand that and just slide that part out.

By the way it may be my house, but the mods and admins all do a heck of a job running it and all the posters here do a great job keeping this place great. Really, they make it easy for us and if people ever disagree on things and a good contingent does most of the time we'll change it or get things done to fix the problem.

I believe that's alcohol abuse.

You should never drink and drive either. You might hit a bump and spill your drink.

:D

It may be alcohol abuse. It all depends on the quality of the comic. Hence, my warning to SS2K5.

Everyone knows I detest all forms of censorship no matter how rude or how offensive they might be to others. I think the case in CU with that professor is a clear example.

My personal opinion is that he's bombed out of his skull to compare victims in the WTC bombings to Nazi's (if that is indeed what he did - I did not read the details). I would prefer that he shows greater discretion & respect towards those victims & seeks another way to make his points but I respect his right to say what he wants.

In the same manner I do agree with regulation of speech. Yes you can say whatever you want but in terms of who hears it & when they hear it the state has a valid interest in regulating that.

In that respect the Admins & Mods of SOXTALK represent the State & I support their right to regulate speech here as they see fit. I think they do a fair job at it but I do have one recommendation: instead of removing a thread create an offensive forum. This would be the bit bucket for anything you feel is to offensive for the common good of the forum.

It's sort of like the Scarlet letter branding of posts. You have a right to write what you want but we have a right to file it as we see fit. There would of course be the Scarlet letter stigma associated with the forum for those who find their posts ending up there & those reading the posts. That in itself could be a pretty effective deterrent ;)

censorship on the internet???  i don't get it... :huh

second time in a week a thread of mine was erased...  after MB's scare on monday I started a thread titled 2006...  it was and still is my opinion that if mark goes down the sox will finish at best third place..  but, instead of people addressing my opinion, albeit an overreaction because the situation wasn't fully known, my opinion is deleted....  ?????  then I post a topic about a "festival" in the Ozarks with a link, I guess I should have warned about the link, but the forum I posted it in already warns readers.. "Tired of talking baseball? Not in the mood to hear about the Bears losing another game? Then come in here to talk about whatever the heck you want. From politics to carpet samples, this is the place for your non-sporting needs. But be sure to bring your thick skin"    but your skin doesn't have to be that thick cause the aboz will censor it for you...

if I am wrong mea culpa. but is censorship the way to go ????

You posted a link with a website that had XXX in the title of the site.

What do you think is going to happen? Use common sense and maybe you wouldn't have to be edited.

If you want to post porn, go elsewhere.

Sorry, but there are some things that are not appropriate on Soxtalk, regardless of the label you put on a forum.

As for you detesting all forms of censorship ... there is that one classic example of an always inappropriate expression of free speech ... yelling FIRE! in a crowded theatre when there is no fire.

Edited to add: I meant to qoute Jugernaut's last post.
