So we are we sitting with these guys? Are they actually interested in coming here or are we just on the list because its a possibility??

 

I would think that we would be very attractive to go to.. were losing some great players and they would have a chance to step in and contribute to a solid program right away

This is a report, but here goes:

On our rating 1-10 rating scale a top five player nationally is worth 10 points, a top 10 player nationally is worth nine points, a player in the 11-40 range nationally is worth eight points, a player in the 41-70 range nationally is worth six points, a player in the 71-100 range nationally is worth four points, a player in the 101-300 range nationally is worth three points, a player in the 301-1000 range nationally is worth two points, and anybody not ranked among the top 1000 gets one point.  Junior college and prep school are factored in as if they were the equivalent of a high school senior.

Since 2005 recruiting is all but wrapped up, I'll list some of the top players that are interested in the Illini in the 06 class, feel free to ask questions and I can research it.

 

Here are 4 guys with high interest in Illinois,

#4 SG Jon Scheyer, Duke lean?

#4 C Ray Hall

4 star SG Marques Johnson About Marques, "Furthermore, the 22-point per game scorer said that he’ll likely take officials to Illinois, Georgetown and Oklahoma. The No. 1 Illini is definitely in the mix. “They’re one of my favorites,” Johnson said. “I spent a lot of time on their campus and I’m most familiar with them.”

 

4 star PF Josh Chichester , football recruit also, interest in OSU in football could be tough to overcome.

 

Other guys that have interest in Illinois,

 

1 PG Mike Conley , pretty strong lean to WF right now though.

 

1 SF Thaddeus Young , apparent interest in about 10 schools, needs to shorten list.

 

4 PG Sherron Collins , Illini should be in great shape here, GT main foe.

 

6 SF Isaiah Dahlman

 

A couple of others guys the Illini have apparent offers to.

4 star C Brian Carlwell , a possible early Illini commitment if offer is real, good looking prospect, solid big man without the likely NBA aspirations.

 

3 star PF Joevan Cotton , wouldn't be suprised with an early Illini commitment here if Illini really have offered, sometimes kids get mixed up in a real offer and intent to offer.

As always, the NBA will take their fair share of players, especially in this class, and other players will emerge over the summer to become big timers. But the Illini should be in very good shape with next years class. Rush would be a big help if he turns down the NBA, he could start right away as expressed before on here.

All I know is that Wisconsin should be solid again.

 

Hopefully Butch will show why he was a McDonald's selection, it will hurt to lose Morely who I do not see being replaced, and a guy like Clayton Hanson who can shoot threes and give great defense.

 

But we have a good recruiting class in 2005, and I believe that in 2006 we have some other good names that are interested in Wisconsin.

 

And if you are interested in the success of team first coaches, you should look no farther than Bo Ryan. He does not have the most talented teams, but he gets the most out of what he has.

 

And can some one give me a heads up on Wisconsin potential 2006 class?

Here's some extra info on your very solid 2006 Center commit JP Gavinski,

 

"Gavinski follows in-state stars Brian Butch and Greg Stiemsma to remain home and play for the Bo Ryan and the Badgers.

 

Gavinski received interest from the likes of Marquette, Iowa, Washington State, Wake Forest, Michigan, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Illinois, Boston College and Kansas State. "

Prior to last night I had heard different reports on J.P.’s game, so I went in open minded and was impressed. He is left handed, but showed that he can hit the soft “baby hook” with either hand at will. Very soft touch and does know how to work for position under the boards, but needs to bulk up and add weight. He is a ‘young’ sophomore, so I am sure a weight and conditioning program could turn him into something special. He is the next "BIG" man to come out of Wisconsin after Brian Butch and Greg Stiemsma.

Trevon Hughes is a 6'3 4 star PG that could be a battle between the Illini and Wisconsin for his services.

Rivals does have Green rated much higher, so you have to give them credit for that. But otherwise they are pretty similar in their rankings after rechecking both lists. CJ Miles out of the top 25 is crazy for Rivals, and a few other problems.

 

Its all speculation right now, who knows which one will be closer to being correct, we will see in 2-3 years. I like Rivals top 10 better than Scouts I will admit.

Ya, this is true. When i saw green rated that low on scouts though it just pissed me off. But if you look closely they are pretty comparable after the top 25 or so.

I think in this class its pretty clear right now that Josh McRoberts and Gerald Green are 1-2, and the rest of the top 10 is pretty much opinion based. You can have any of these guys in there.

It seems apparent that Illinois' most important recruiting class in quite a while will be the 06 class. These guys are being recruited and will make commitments soon after the great season Ill had. The in state recruits, Scheyer and Collins, could be an awesome backcourt duo in the years to come. Illinois hasn't gotten the top flight in state recruits lately. Dee Brown being the exception and look where he led the Illini.

Well since rivals.com doesn't have a site for Southern Illinois I couldn't go through them, but scout.com has info. I saw a couple of their 05 recruits play in the Illinois state tournament.

 

They have Josh Tabb, ranked 20th best SG by scout.com as a 4 star recruit. His team (Carbondale) lost in the finals, but he is a strong player who can rebound well. He's quick with a solid jump shot from what I saw. I don't know about his defense because I haven't seen him enough, I suppose he didn't stand out.

 

Bryan Mullins is a quick, smart PG who is a great defender. He was on the 3rd place team (Downers Grove South). He seemed like a good floor leader, and had confidence when handling the ball. Supposedly he is a very good outside shooter, but I saw nothing of the sort that weekend. Scout.com has him as a 3 star player.

 

They also landed Chris Cornelius (3 star PF), Nick Rogers (2 star PF), and Jordan Armstrong (2 star PF). They are all out of state and I know nothing about them, but it looks like, for now, that SIU has a better recruiting class than U of I.

i just have a question in general. Ive been wonderin about this for some time now. Why are we not a top program in the country recruiting wise? I mean, is there a reason why we cannot be like KU, UK, Duke, UNC, UConn? What does our school not have? Great academically, great facilities, very supportive fans, 2, maybe even 3 amazing recruiting bases in chi, stl, and peoria. Is it simply cuz we havent won the big one, or what? what r your guys thoughts?

3 coaches in like 5 years can't help. Look at the top programs and most of them don't have that kind of turnover. Heck even the coaches haven't viewed Illinois as a top desination as they have kept leaving for greener pastures. If you look at the top 10 programs, stablitiy at the top is trait #1 for most of them. I think UNC is about the only exception there, and they get by on their name like no one else can.
