IlliniKrush
ChiSox that's a pretty accurate take on the recruiting situation. I'm expecting that this final four and possible NC will help Weber recruit. Right now there is no doubt he's having issues. Losing Wright to Self really pissed me off, and the Palmer situation was very sticky. Both were very unfortunate, would have really helped the class. If we could snag Rush, this wouldn't be that bad...but this next class better be killer, or we're gonna have some problems keeping this an elite program. Agreed, we have to follow up this class with a Top Five class...you need role players, but without a few stars role players become mediocre real quick. The Palmer situation was at best, confusing, and to be completely honest after seeing him play a few times with Oak Hill i'm glad we didnt keep him. I do feel bad for him, and was happy to see him git a scholly with Seton Hall, lets wish him the best. Have you seen much footage of Rush? He is a ridiculous dunker, the type of guy who electrifies the crowd...I would love to have him for a year or two. BTW, I do frequent the IlliniBoard, hence forth the vast knowledge on the recruiting situation
T R U
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) Weber must not be very hot on the recruiting trail. Who knows though, these 3 guys could turn into great players, its so tough to tell with some of these kids coming out. With the right coaching and situation, they could become all-americans. Look at Louisville, Dean and Garcia weren't McDonald's All-Americans, neither were Ellis Myles or Larry O'Bannon. Hell O'Bannon begged Pitino for a scholarship and look where all of these guys are now. These rankings are nice to look at, but they can also be misleading, especially when you are going to play for a great coach like Weber. I agree with you.. With Webers coaching those 3 star guys we recruit could be more around the 4 or so range Weber is a great coach, which is going to help us a lot But if we dont start getting some of those star players it could be trouble for the future.. There's no doubt Weber can coach...but you can only do so much without elite talent. Weber gets himself some elite classes, and we will remain a truly elite program for the foreseeable future. I haven't seen much video of rush besides some random clips. From the sound of it (from IB), he sounds like he could be a pretty big impact player. Crossing the fingers... WHarris1
I have no doubt the 2006 class will be great coming off such a spectacular year, if it's not we may have serious problems. Another thing Weber is gonna be looking for guys that can stay possibly over 2 years, don't have a me first attitude, and will fit into a team where sharing the ball is key. maggsmaggs
Rush has been compared to McGrady with a better shot and less altheticism at the same age by his high school coach--coincidentally at Mt. Zion HS, the same school T-Mac went to. I heard the Rush really likes Dee Brown game, so his decision could be swayed based on Dee's decision to go pro or not to go pro. Although 2005 class looks weak and will be moved up to solid if Rush comes, 2006 looks real good and so does 2007. 2006: Sherron Collins (Dee Brown like), Scheyer, Thaddeus Young, Mike Conley. They will hopefully get 2 of the 4. And in 2007: Simeon's Derrick Rose who is the 4th rated soph. in the country and Eric Gordon from I think Indiana is high on the list. The next few classes look promising, so hopefully all the recognition will get the Illini these big time recruits.
YASNY
Wait. Illinois is not an "elite program" .... yet. They have good players from a good recruiter being coached by a good X & O guy. One year does not an elite program make. They may get there, and I hope they do.
IlliniKrush
One year? What about the last 5... Depends on your definition of elite i guess.

aboz56
I guess you'd need to define elite, if we are talking top 10 programs in the country, no I would not list them there....yet.

whitesoxfan99
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) Jesus, how can you be the #1 team in the country all year long and have the #117th class, even with all of the graduations and NBA jumps that are going to happen after this season? To be fair almost every player in the '05 class decided on schools before this season started. I still would have liked to see him bring a better class, although I think Smith and Jackson are going to be very good players and that Weber got very lucky that Jackson was available (that wasn't good recruiting but it worked out well). Weber chose to offer Smith a scholarship before offering guys like Josh Tabb, Jerel McNeal, and even Bobby Frasor, will that work out, who knows? As for Rush, reports are Oklahoma leads and that Illinois is right there.
Palehosefan
The 06 class is better than this 05 class, and the 07 class is supposed to be as good as the 04 class, which was great. I'm bored right now so here are my top ten CURRENT programs. 1. UConn(2 championships lately and doing VERY well in recruiting) 2. Duke(yuck, but they are still getting just about who they please) 3. Mighigan State(teams are doing well, but recruiting this year a little down for their standards) 4. Kentucky(still elite, and a hell of a freshmen class, doing well in recruiting again) 5. Kansas(elite recruiting and almost elite results on the court) 6. Arizona(still very good recruiting and very good results) 7. Oklahoma State(very good results, and elite recruiting lately) 8. UNC(elite recruiting, and results starting to come again) 9. Illinois(recruiting in question, but results aren't) 10. WF(recruiting well, and results pretty solid)
