Punch and Judy Garland
Technically no longer a White Sox player, I figured I'd post it here since he was so recently. Why did the Mets pick him up and waive him to the Mariners? Is he out of options and they tried to start him in the minors? I guess all that talk about how Ozzie loved him in Florida didn't mean much in the longrun.
bjm676
He wasn't going to make the Mets. They have Chris Woodward. He probably won't make the Mariners, either. Mariners claimed infielder Wilson Valdez off waivers from the Mets. Valdez, who was claimed by the Mets three days ago, is joining another team that shouldn't have a roster spot open for him. He probably go back on waivers again this weekend.
nitetrain8601
That sucks for him. Why do teams that know they wont' have a roster spot for him continue to pick him up?????
The Beast
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) That sucks for him. Why do teams that know they wont' have a roster spot for him continue to pick him up????? In an attempt to use him in combination with another player for a trade? The teams that have claimed him so far are the early picks.

Why do teams that know they wont' have a roster spot for him continue to pick him up????? For depth. Also because they may think he has some type of upside, but they think he is 'bad' enough to clear waivers...as is the case with Wilson Valdez. Jabroni
The Mets claimed him and then waived him to try to sneak him through to their minor league team to have some infielder depth down there, just like we tried to do. They were hoping no other team would claim him but the Mariners did. The Mariners will probably try to do the exact same thing and another team could claim Valdez again. That would suck for him if he got claimed again. I hope for the sake of him that he doesnt.

YASNY
Three teams, possibly four, within a week. That's what you call a journeyman infielder.
jackie hayes
From Rotoworld, Wilson Valdez is going to be the Mariners' opening day ss w/ both Pokey and Jose Lopez hurting.
DBAHO
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) From Rotoworld, Wilson Valdez is going to be the Mariners' opening day ss w/ both Pokey and Jose Lopez hurting. That can't be good for Wite's man Willie Bloomquist. Good chance for Wilson though, I hope he makes the best of it and shows something, could make Reese expendable. LostInBoston
Kinda funny - also in the Mariners starting lineup: M. Olivo J. Reed Mariners are becoming a poor man's Sox.

The weird thing is that the Mariners would have had to pass on him the first time around because all teams in the same league have first crack in the waiver process. Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) The weird thing is that the Mariners would have had to pass on him the first time around because all teams in the same league have first crack in the waiver process. They knew Pokey was heading to the DL, but when Valdez was put on Waivers the first time, they didn't know the status of Jose Lopez, who has now been diagnosed with a broken hamate bone and is out 4-6 weeks. JDsDirtySox
Valdez is starting at SS tonight for the Mariners against the Twins.
winninguglyin83
Yeah, he just half-assed a double play ball by Shannon Stewart, helping the twins keep a rally alive. they were down 4-0 with Santana on the mound. Now it is 4-3 Mariners and the Twinkies have two on and one out. If he is starting at SS for Seattle, Seattle ain't got much
