Bighurt52235
I, personally, I'm tired of hearing people say, "He's the best player you've never heard of (or seen)". Since almost every announcer says that, obviously everyone has heard of him. And wasn't he voted into the All-Star game last year? Just because not many people go to the games in Montreal doen't mean that baseball fans around America don't watch Sportscenter or read the boxscores. To every stupid MLB announcer: :fyou
BrandoFan
Wouldn't mind having him on the Sox. Bye-bye Thomas, Karlos/Conerko. I'd rather have him than Tejada. Thoughts?
Bighurt52235
That'd be great to have him, but why get rid of Thomas and Konerko as well? I can't figure out if I'd rather have him or Tejada, because we don't need a RF like we'll need a SS, because this is Jose's contract year. I can't figure out if I'd rather have him or Tejada, because we don't need a RF like we'll need a SS, because this is Jose's contract year Konerko makes 8 Mill and Lee will make close to that if he has a semi-break-out year. Tejada will cost 10-12 million while Valentin might give the Sox discount for the option year (say 4M). Hurt is either a wash-up dead weight (me) or has a 2000type season and becomes free agent/demands 10+ mill. With Konerko/Valentin/Lee and Thomas gone, 15-18 Million is freed up. GUerrero is young, healthy and can play borth center and right. Tejada will make the same money but is much slower and isn;t as good. Bighurt52235
The idea of Thomas/Lee/Konerko/Valentin all leaving in the same offseason makes me sad. : ( I never want Thomas to leave.
BrandoFan
Thomas/Lee/Konerko/Valentin all leaving It either-or, not all of them. Relax. Jose is my favorite Vait Sok and Lee was one of my favorite prospects 3 years ago. Alas, if we are to sign King Vladimir, 10 million+ needs to be freed up even if we make playoffs this year. And I want to see Colon, B-man and Maggs stay... JR made the [payroll] rules, not me. Konerko and Lee sucking it up on O and D. are sure making this decision easier, though. Bighurt52235
Damn, if only we were owned by Mr. Steinbrenner...... Just kidding, that's not winning fair, I believe. But seriously if only KW had about $75 million to work with, we'd be in business.
BrandoFan
But seriously if only KW had about $75 million to work with, we'd be in business For some teams it wouldn't be enough (Cubbies, Dodgers, Mets, Rockies, etc), but since we lucked out with Burhle, Marte, DJ, Crede, etc 75 million was what I was tihnking about 2-3 years ago. Too bad our attendance sucks, teams underachive and JR has an excuse not to spend.

CubKilla
It surely must be an offday when we start talking about getting Vlad on the White Sox We talked about it too at length in a thread during the offseason. There were more than a few here that wouldn't have minded seeing Maggs traded for Vlad straight up..... me included.
BrandoFan
There were more than a few here that wouldn't have minded seeing Maggs traded for Vlad straight up..... me included. So you'd rather have Frank here than Maggs who is just entering his prime? There are only a few untouchables in this franchise and Maggs is one of them (Rauch, Diaz, Honel, Borchard, Crede, Jimenez, Buerhle, Colon, Olivo, Cotts are the other)

Mathew
I'd take Vlad over any non-pitcher in the league right now.
witesoxfan
I'd take Vlad over any non-pitcher in the league right now. I'd take ARod before anyone, disregarding salary, and then I'd have to think long and hard about who I'd take between Bonds and Guerrero. In the end....I'd probably take Guerrero 2nd. This is non-pitchers, of course.

Bonds hit bomb number 5 in the 1st already tonight. This guy gets better the older he gets. That's the thing I like about him. Benito Santiago is like a career .240 hitter....and he busts out for a .280 16 80 year batting behind Bonds. Santiago is like 35 or 38....somewhere in there...and he's a catcher. That's pretty incredible....that'd be like Sandy hitting .300 15 70. If we got that out of Sandy....I'd s*** my pants. Bonds makes his team great...if he weren't so old, I would probably want him #1 overall. You could trade him to the DRays or Tigers....and they'd win 80 games. "..... if he weren't so old" or such an asshole..... I think that kind of depends. I'd take him based on his performance....and we'd still win, using the Frank Thomas/Barry Bonds effect. If they put up huge stats....you'll win. If not....it'll be a long year. He and Thomas are similar in that aspect....and that's pretty much where the similarites end. Mathew
Guerro makes Vidro and Cabrera, Wilkerson better hitters arguement could be said I'm sure. Bonds is an ass, but half the time he gets to the plate he does something. I knew the A-Rod debate would arise, but Vlad just doesn't miss many pitches, good, ugly or otherwise, it's wild. Vlad goes 40-40 which is impossible in today's game and his arm is amaising. None of the three would be bad but that's how I'd go.
