Marte beaning Lee

Ah the smear campaigns continue. I realize htis is Cowley and not the Sox but will the Sox writers, organization and fans just get over it? What year is it? I thought it was 2005 but you wouldn't  know it by what you read.

What smear campaign? Are we suddendly adopting a Mark McGwire policy of refusing to talk about the past? No need to overanalyze a simple article suggesting Lee's HBP meant more than once believed. Cowley's prior article questioning Lee's attitude may have been, but not this particular piece.

When it happened, I thought clearly Marte was aiming at Lee. I recorded the game and watched it several times. What I really missed was Harrelson's take on it. He was not at the game in which Marte hit (not "beaned") Lee. He did broadcast the next day, and they replayed the incident.

During the next day replay, DJ said something like, you can see that the pitch just got away from Damaso. Hawk said "Are you being PC (politically correct) or do you really think that?" DJ said, "I really believe that it got away." Harrelson said "Well, that must be what happened then." My inference was that Hawk thought it was purposely done too.

This is all of a feather with these, 'no selfish players THIS year' and 'winning attitude THIS year' stories.  All this ex-post rationalization.  I'm just tired of reading about it.  They lost not b/c of any clubhouse conflict, they lost because they couldn't get people out.

I agree with this assessment. Hearing Rowand discuss selflessness on the field one day into the season is a little premature.

This is why listening to Hawk can become unbearable. Last year it was "Ozzieball" hype for nearly two straight months, and now he'll compliment Ozzie's "smallball" philosophy until our team falls apart.

If Hawk says "Ozzie finally has a club assembled which fits his style" again, I'm going to smash my TV with a sledgehammer.

Do yourself a favor and turn on your radio then. I would bet the first bunt attempt or situation that calls for a bunt will have Hawk cooing again.

First off they just need the past to be in the past and move the hell on and stop trying to justify anything. Just play ball and let it die already...they almost sound like the Scrubs of last season with this BS....

It ain't the Sox ... it's the damn media.

This is two days in a row with this kind of an article. That's not to mention the continuing posts on sox fans sites about valentin, Lee and ordonez. It's getting kind of pathetic

I guess we either miss them or are glad they're gone. Most people will take the latter.

That's my only complaint with Hawk.

If we win this year, it will be because of 'Ozzieball', 'Smallball', whatever -- according to Hawk.

Really, though, if we win this year, it will be because of good-to-great pitching and more consistency (read: Pods better than last year, Gooch not having too much of a drop off from his last two years in Japan, Dye improving his numbers, etc etc).

Damaso Marte said all the right things, simply describing it as an inside pitch that got away.

But his White Sox teammates and the coaching staff knew it was so much more.

When the left-handed reliever drilled former teammate Carlos Lee in a spring training meeting with Milwaukee on March 23, it was payback for two years worth of frustration.

Lee was a bully to Marte. He often ridiculed Marte's poor upbringing in the Dominican Republic, would sneak up and slap Marte on the back of the neck and would make Marte the butt of his jokes. In other words, Lee was a participant in the kind of selfish behavior the Sox tried to distance themselves from during the past offseason.

"We all knew it was coming," one Sox player said of the Cactus League incident, "and it will probably happen again."

That is bs, if someone made fun of where I was from more than me I would be pretty pissed too. Someone mentioned that the more stuff they hear about Lee the more happy hes gone but what does Cowley have against Lee? Isn't this the 2nd article bashing Lee? He's gone, how many times do we have to say thats history...leave it that way.

Wait, Jabroni, you were telling all of us that the plunk must have been unintentional -- so how can you believe the article has any credibility?

This is all just dreck. I don't like the Lee trade, but it's done, so I haven't been going around cooing about 'Carlos did this in st', or 'Caballo mashed today', or whatever. But everyday, another thread about how much CLee sucks. With reasons as stupid as Carlos didn't try to break up a double play...which was so far from being a double play that no throw was even made to first. Christ, just be happy he's gone if you have that much of an animus and let it go. I agree much more with someone who said earlier that we're more like the Cubs this way, going into a season b****ing about players who are gone, about how much everyones' feelings were hurt w/ mean, mean Carlos Lee around. If it's that big a deal, how 'bout they just cut Timo in the offseason and hire a psychiatrist with the savings? Enuf already...

And why do I get the feeling that if Podsednik really struggles, Carlos will be molesting kids by the ASB?

I thought it was but apparently I was wrong. But I thought Lee was selfish before Marte ever beaned Lee. If I can admit when I'm wrong, why can't you?

By the way, the media is doing most of the talking when it comes to Carlos, not the players.

Don't believe everything you read. Carlos Lee was the MVP of the 04 ChiSox. If all this was 100% true in this town it would have surfaced long ago.

The jury is still out as to whether KW will eat his lunch on the Lee trade.

Unlike the rest of you I'm not basing it mostly on what El Duque does.

I'm basing it primarily on what AJP, Pods, Vizc, Iggy & the PTBNL do. That's where I see Lee's salary being spent.

So far plus points for AJP & Iggy, but minuses for Pods & Vizc. It's a long season.

Admit what? I've said I don't know the guy, and you won't find me anywhere saying Carlos is superhyperfantastic personally. But I hear a bunch of fluff innuendo -- about sliding into second and kidding a teammate -- and that should convince me that I know Carlos's motivations?

And what's more, I should care?

Sox fans are doing as much talking as the media. I don't get the fanaticism.

Kenny needs to do everything in his power to stop the Lee bashing. Both from players & the media. It does not HELP the ChiSox.

Lee has had nothing but good things to say about the ChiSox. The team should do everything in it's power to keep it that way.

The fact that MLB designated the Brewer's as the Twins regional I-L rival means there are 12 gms over the next 2 yrs where that team can help the ChiSox in the standings. If Lee had to be traded & the best talent available was what KW got then it's an added bonus it was to the Brewer's.

I've said this before & I will say this again. Every time Lee plays a role in a Flubs or Twins loss the ChiSox will be mentioned & the ChiSox will be helped. How do you think that will reflect on other team's willingness to trade for ChiSox talent? Big! Real Big! If Lee emerges as the marquee player for the Brewers teams will be even more inclined to jump at the young talent on the ChiSox. That means they will be more likely to overpay.

That's what I still find puzzling about the trade. It was a salary dump, IMHO, because people keep telling me to judge the trade not by just who they got back, Podsednik and Vizcaino, but also with what they did with the money.

I'm just puzzled as to why they couldn't/didn't get more talent back in the deal. But it's probably annoying to others to see me harping on the deal, so I'll just stop there.

Go get 'em tomorrow, Jose!

Its bad how many of our fans have bad stuff to say about Carlos when he's said nothing but good things about the club. Only the Sox know what happened in the club house, none of us know anything but whats being said. Carlos stepped up for the sox last year wether it was for his own stats or for the team, he was the reason we won some games and didn't end up in 3rd place. The least you could do is respect him for that.
