bulokis
I think scoring 4 runs in the 9th will boost these guys' confidence and help them relax a little bit at the plate. With what happened today, our offense will likely score more runs.

Steff
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) That's almost like hoping he fails. I don't expect much from Willie and bash him quite often but when he actually gets the job done I'm not going to bash him for it and not give him his props. That's moronic. No hoping.. he will. Who wants to bet that Willed had to be (or has been) told to STFU after the game today because he was acting like he was Mr. All Star Gold Glove. whitesoxin'
QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Last minute is never good. Last minut, IMO, is actually the best type of scoring. Especially when you are at home, there is no chance your bullpen can blow it then. Not to mention, it is the most exciting.
CWSGuy406
Does anyone know if a balk factors into one's ERA? Never thought about that, but I'm curious... EDIT: I'd assume that the answer is yes...? Edited April 6, 2005 by CWSGuy406
SleepyWhiteSox
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) But Willie STILL didn't get the job done? You should NEVER hope for the worst when he's got the S-O-X on his jersey...
jackie hayes
For those of us who couldn't watch the game, can someone describe Willie's bunt play? Were the runners off on the pitch, which fielders were charging, where were they, where was the pitch located, anything else interesting? I'm having a hard time understanding how the play worked. The Beast
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Ok, so because Marte didn't get Hafner out today, that means Marte will never get anyone else's best hitters out the rest of the year? :banghead You know damn well that wasn't what I said. Nevermind, I'm not going to argue, because all I wanted to say was that he needs to get people out in situations...but I'm not arguing with you. I feel you. I'll be happy with 6 solid innnings of 3 runs or less from him tomorrow. Hell, hold them under 4 runs and i'll be happy.

Runners on first and second (Rowand) on second. The pitch was up and away (IIRC), and Harris put the bunt down, a little less than halfway between the mound and home plate. It would have been a close play at third, but Wick decided to go to first, but he bobbled it, and there was no play. Harris would have been out at first, but I still thought it was a nice play. RockRaines
I think it was a great choice to let willie bunt, and it was a good one. Why all the hate for that decision??

He made an OUTSTANDING bunt, Wickman bobbled the ball and Willie ran his ass off and made it to first to load the bases with nobody out. The bunt was placed PERFECTLY down the 3rd base line. Could not have been any better. AMAZING BUNT!!! Edited April 6, 2005 by whitesoxin'

Rowand44
I thought damaso looked fantastic today. Hafner hit a slicer that stayed fair that really wasn't hit that hard. Damaso's stuff is back, his fastball looked great and his slider looked good too, the ump didn't give him the call for any of his sliders but I thought Marte looked great today. Actually I thought the whole bullpen looked great. Another thing to remember is Viz came in for his 2nd inning of work where Hermanson probably would have came in if he wasn't suspended, regardless I'm estatic with this whole bullpen, this is going to be a shutdown pen this year. I absolutely love it.
WHarris1
I don't think I have ever seen a bunt as good as Willies, that was truly remarkable. Willie won us the game. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WILLIE
CWSGuy406
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Who was charging and where was he? And were the runners off on the pitch? Wickman charged in, and I assume that Boone was playing in a bit, too -- but the camera angle really only showed Wickman and Martinez. When the ball was layed down, (someone here said) Martinez pointed to first almost right away. Harris would have been out at first, leaving runners on second and third, with one out, but like it's been said, Wick couldn't pick up the ball, so there was no play. EDIT: And I assume that the runners were not off, but basically taking short steps and leading towards their respective bases (Aaron to third, AJ to second) -- but I don't think they were off. Like I said, I doubt they get Aaron if they throw. Actually, I'll put it this way -- Wick might have been able to make a play at third, but it would have taken a perfect grab, spin, and a hard-accurate throw to third -- a play that the best, athletic pitchers might make, but probably even them still go to first. And, we're talking about Wickman here... Edited April 6, 2005 by CWSGuy406
