Contreras had a great outing.  I hate wasting those, when we don't know how many we'll get.

What's w/ all this spamming talk?  Just b/c the thread's so long?  (Why chat rocks, btw...)  At first I thought this was a joke.  qwerty's the best.

When I looked at the chat there were two people in there.. it was fun yesterday when we were in there..

True..but i dont see why cotts, pollite and marte all faced 1 batter and were taken out. That is what pisses me off more than the loss. I hated seeing Viz struggle when he was forced into it.

Cotts faced more than one batter, he probably had to be taken out when he was. The questions are should Politte have stayed in to face a lefty? Should Marte have gone into the 8th? Or should have Hermanson continued? All fun points to debate. But points that Ozzie was probably right to think none were going to ever be considered. Plus we did have Vizcaino as emergency.

Things went to complete s*** in a hurry, this happens so infrequently in a season that I'm not going to put any blame on Ozzie for that.

BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE BRING IN JON G IN THE 11TH!

The funny thing is that everyone ripping on Ozzie for using too many relievers never said a word about it when he made the pitching changes.  The fact is that Shingo blew the game.  How was Ozzie supposed to forsee that happening?  Hindsight is a great thing, isn't it?

Well, you always should keep in mind that it can happen, even though you can't forsee it.

No, but this is now two days in a row in which Ozzie has used Marte -- clearly our best reliever, and our best reliever the past three seasons, and one of the best left handed relievers in the AL -- as a situational lefty. He's more important than to be used for one f***ing guy...

i'm right with you on that. i feel bad for contrares and especially Viz who was put into a really s***ty position... we really shoulda pulled this one out because, like you say, we dont know how many good outings we'll get from this guy.

He couldn't have known. But I don't blame Ozzie for failing to remove Shingo

I'm wondering why Ozzie used Cotts/Marte/Politte in specialist roles, each recording only one out. Marte is more valuable than a specialist, Cotts should pitch more than one inning, whereas Politte (depending LH/RH batter) could have defintely pitched deeper considering this is his first outting. Because of this, the bullpen was stretched out and Vizcaino was left to rot.

Agreed on Viz -- not a fair reflection on him.

Cotts was coming out of the game pretty much no matter what there.

Cotts was shaky as hell, remember? He put runners at the corners. Also, if Ozzie had left Politte in the game he would have had to face Hafner, a power-hitting lefty. Where were you, man?

I'm satisfied with the way Ozzie handled the situation but where was Garland?

Why not just let Marte pitch the 7th, and Hermanson the 8th?  I hate the logic of using Marte as a situational lefty.  He's the type of pitcher that needs to get into a rhythm on the mound.

I concur. Great post.
