What do you expect (Realistically) of El Duque?

We;re in a pretty tough spot with him because six innings might not be enough. I'm not sure if Shingo is avalable either after throwing (I believe) over 40 pitches.

Vizcaino is definitely not available, and I don't know about Cotts.

That leaves us with Politte, Marte, and Hermanson.

I would hope for 6+ innings from El Duque, 2 ER.

I would expect :

IP 6-7

ER 2-4

Ks 3-5

WHIP 1.2-1.4

It may not be pretty, but it will be solid none the less, and mayeb a little scary at times.

I think Shingo's available today.

I think everyone is ready for today except Vizcaino

Duke/Cotts/Marte/Shingo with maybe a little Cliff (!) thrown in there.

I am hopeing for 6/7 innings out of him.. If that happens... then we are in the clear. Garland we all know will give us about 6 tommorow, and Marky should go another 7/8 if we can get that out of our starters, Our Bullpen will be fine going into Cleveland, esp with the off day on Tuesday.

Hopefully the sox win. its gonna be a battle because no one likes losing on their turf on opening day. el duque needs to be that big game pitcher that we have seen in the past. hopefully it will be 4 quality starts in a row for the sox pitching staff. i feel confident have cotts, hermy, and Marte in the pen. :gosox1:

It's tough to manage this guy. I can see why the Yanks have busted him

so often. He should be limited to a 100 pc because of his history of being a fragile player but it's pretty hard to pull a guy when he looks like he's getting stronger. Ozzie needs to remain discipline & limit him to a pc of 100. Regardless of the score or any thing else.

He looks good for at least 5 IP w/in a 100 pc limit. If he's really pitching well that day you can get 7 IP out of him in that limit. But don't be foolish like the Yanks. They stretched him to 123 pc over 6 IP & suffered a loss.

His next start he only made it thru 3 IP. His health is more important than any single win.

"Hernandez looks to keep on coming"

April 8, 2005

The American League's comeback player of the year will try to keep the momentum going today when he opens his season with a start against the Minnesota Twins.

White Sox pitcher Orlando Hernandez was presented Thursday with the Players Choice Award after a ballot of major-leaguers last season selected the right-hander as having the best comeback season in 2004.

Hernandez missed the entire 2003 season because of a shoulder injury, and when he finally returned July 11, he ran off a streak of eight consecutive victories for the New York Yankees. Hernandez finished with an 8-2 record and a 3.30 ERA. He made one postseason start, giving up three runs in five innings and getting a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series.

Hernandez's experience in high-profile games is one reason he is starting today in the Twins' home opener instead of going Thursday at home against the Cleveland Indians.

"I'm happy and excited about pitching with a little pressure,'' Hernandez said. "I feel good. I'm waiting for tomorrow, but it's just Game 4 of 162 games. I'm ready for wins. I worked well during spring training and I'm ready.''

The Sox will send Jon Garland to the mound Saturday for his season debut and will end the series Sunday with a matchup of Mark Buehrle against Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana. But it is tonight's outing that manager Ozzie Guillen is anticipating.

"Because we haven't seen him pitch in this uniform,'' Guillen said of Hernandez. "He's a competitive pitcher. It's a big day for him because it's going to be Opening Day for him, a big series.''

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 11:09 AM)
I expect nothing less than another quality start from a CSox pitcher: 5-6IP/2-3ER

WTFizzle?

I agree

OMGWTFLOLZ :banghead :D

...except of course that 5 IP can never be considered a quality start.
