Witnesses: Disabled Girl Punched In Face, Forced To Perform Sex Acts

POSTED: 2:25 pm EDT April 12, 2005

UPDATED: 9:11 am EDT April 13, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 16-year-old disabled girl was punched and forced to engage in videotaped sexual acts with several boys in a high school auditorium as dozens of students watched, according to witnesses.

Authorities are investigating and no charges have been filed in the alleged attack last month at Mifflin High School. Four boys suspected of involvement were sent home and have not returned to class.

Also, the principal, Regina Crenshaw, was suspended and will be fired for not calling police, school officials said. And three assistant principals were suspended and will be reassigned to other schools.

Crenshaw had no comment Tuesday.

The girl was forced to perform oral sex on at least two boys, according to statements from school officials, obtained by The Columbus Dispatch.

Part of the alleged assault was videotaped by a student who had a camera for a school project.

School officials found the girl bleeding from the mouth. An assistant principal cautioned the girl's father against calling 911 to avoid media attention, the statements said. The girl's father called police.

Her father said the girl is developmentally disabled. A special education teacher said the teen has a severe speech impediment.

There is a special place in hell for these assholes.. and I hope the parents sue the crap out of the school.

I hate the way schools systems are too worried about PR and themselves instead of actually worrying about why they exsist and that is for the betterment of the kids.

I can't believe that course of action would be the norm... That guy will never work again.. and rightly so.

Why aren't there charges being filed.

And I would go after the people that watched (a la The Accused) for their inaction.

I used to cover crime and the about 20 Chicagoland suburban police departments for the Trib when I got out of college.

I have reported on actual rapes, but I also saw more than my share of police reports where the girl was lying. A couple of them were of the "gang" variety. "Gang" meaning more than one guy, not an affiliation to a specific gang.

Often the girl regretted having the sex afterward, but sometimes it was a case of her being so drunk she didn't know exactly what she was doing.

This is a gray area. I remember a few years back where a male student at Brown University was accused of rape and basically black-balled at the school because he had sex with a girl who apparently wanted to, but later she said she was too drunk to know what she was doing. She also said the guy knew she was too intoxicated to know what she was doing.

Gray area indeed.

Moral of the story: Save the sex for when you're sober. At the very least, it's more enjoyable.

Agreed. How many of us can think back and consider ourselves lucky after something we did after a night of drinking. I.E. How did I get home last night? Stupid, stupid.

I don't really see this grey area. I mean for me it says it all when they say the girl is developmentally disabled. If these boys go to school with her then it should be fairly obvious if the girl is a little slow. If her IQ is such that she had no idea what she was doing then thats rape no matter how many times the girl might have "consented"
