Queen Prawn
Brian was mentioning this the other night. Bummed him out quite a bit - it would have bummed me too, but I stopped thinking about it after the season was canceled.

nitetrain8601
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) Nothing better than playoff hockey... I have to agree. Ever since I started working at the United Center I got into hockey(even though that was the year they got Theo Flurry) and it's fun to watch. Playoff Hockey has been fantastic. So intense and all the games are close and you see tons of upsets. I love hockey.

Pauly8509CWS
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Except for being at a White Sox playoff game I'm probably a minority here because I know this is a SOX board, but there is NOTHING, better than playoff hockey. The MLB playoffs doesn't compare for me and the Super Bowl is too commercial. The Stanley Cup Finals is what it's all about, the players playing with broken bones and sewn up gashes, for the chance to skate around infront of 20000 people with a silver cup... I miss NHL hockey
kapkomet
Having went to Tampa last year to see the finals, I sure as hell miss it too. And here's hoping that Florida wins a cup someday soon, cause if they do I get to spend a day with Mr. Stanley. /drools

I've never been to one, but I'd have to imagine being at an OT playoff game is about the best it gets in all of sports. One goal decides it all, you're on the edge of your seat the whole time. It's gotta be amazing... f***ing bastards. Damn, I miss hockey...

I wasn't at an OT game but on April 23rd 2002 I was there when the Hawks last 1-0. One of the most exciting games I've been to and man was the place crazy in the last few minutes when they played Pacino's Any Given Sunday speech. Needless to say Amonte crumpled in the clutch and Thibault had to stand on his head to keep it close. I still keep the ticket with me... kapkomet
There's a lot of interesting moves being thought about now. They are talking of expanding the playoffs to 20 teams, which remember that the playoffs is where higher revenues are made. They think they can make up some of the lost revenue this way. They'd have a first round best of three series with 8 teams and the other 12 getting rest before they take on the winners coming out of the short series. Also, the union is considering a deal that would link between 24 million and 42.5 million in payroll and the players would get more of the share if the revenues were higher. My honest answer to that one is BULL f***ING s*** because that is essentially the deal that was on the table right beofre the season was called. When y'all see that rumour, call it bull s***, until you see it out. The door has crackead a little supposedly - like they're trying to get some framework in place before the GMs meet next week to talk about using replacement players. There might be more pressure to get a deal done then it looked just a couple of weeks ago. We'll see.

BridgeportHeather
Hockey >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything else ever created. I've been feeling a great emptiness since the beginning of October! The Bulls have done their part to minorly help; however, not having the Blackhawks, no matter how bad the suck, to follow has had me feeling depressed. Hopefully a new CBA will be reached very soon so that we can see Bell, Calder, Ruutu, McCarthy, Tbo, and co. playing once again...I don't think I'd be able to withstand another year without the greatest game ever put on the face of the planet. The young core of Blackhawks will make noise in a year or two, when they have been able to gel together enough. I can't wait to hear THE ROAR once again. CWSGuy406
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 04:10 AM) NCAA Tournament? Nothing. And kap, 20 f***ing teams? :headshake Yuck. Keep it the way it is -- eight teams per conference is perfectly fine with me. I don't understand why they feel they need to NBA-ize the NHL. They're trying to cater to the 'new' fan, rather than keep their old fans. JMHO, but I don't like many of the new changes that might take place, such as bigger nets, shootouts, etc. Why not just create more room in the neutral zone by taking out the red line from the two-line pass? And, refs need to call the game the way it should be called, and there will be no problems. Bettman blows.
