Jabroni
"Taylor calls acquisitions a 'failed experiment'" http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2036753 MINNEAPOLIS -- According to Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, the team's acquisitions of Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell two summers ago were a "failed experiment." hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 05:42 AM) He's not lying. Yep, I was gonna say. The Olowakandi signing might have been the worst of all. And you gotta get rid of Wally World while he still has trade value. Picking up Hassell was a plus, but that doesn't even begin to make up for all of the poor decisions that he made. Well, then again, they did reach the Conference Finals, but when you have a guy like Garnett, you gotta get him more than just some burnt out veterans (Cassell, Sprewell) and perhaps the biggest underachiever in the NBA (Olowakandi). Toss-up between kwame and the kandi man... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Biggest... underachiever... EVER! The sad thing is that Jordan drafted him. nitetrain8601
I would say that at first it looked good, but I knew after last year, they wouldn't contend. The guys were already too old and I knew if they didn't win the championship, this year was going to be even worse. Olwakandi was the only risk worth taking, but they overpaid for him. Also Trenton Hassell got overpaid as well. It's hard thinking what they could've been with KG and Stephon Marbury still together.
hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) Also Trenton Hassell got overpaid as well. He's a Top 5 perimiter defender in this league. He got 27 million over 6 years, IIRC? He's worth every penny. Him and Garnett are the only keepers on that squad. Linton Johnson and Ronald Dupree are just as good defensively(I think Linton is better) and they got a lot less. Hassell is alright, but he should be making no more than 3.25 mil and that's from a NY Knicks team that likes to overpay. Minny got stupid with contracts and overpaid everyone. I like Dupree's defense, but he's no Hassell. Remember when Garnett pitched him for Defensive Player Of The Year? I was also hearing Top 3 Perimiter defender in the league from other sources. He's a joy to watch. He absolutely exploded in Minnesota...his play in a Chicago uniform is nowhere near enough to judge his current skill level on D. Is Linton Johnson still in the league? You're talking about a Portland team that likes to overpay. That would have been one hell of a signing for them supposing that Ratliff and Randolph were healthy, along with contributions from Patterson, Abdur Rahim, Van Exel, Mighty Mouse, Pryzbilla, Miles, etc. They spend a s***load, but at least they try to acquire some defense, as opposed to the Knicks and Mavericks.
