Jabroni
Theres no reason for Cotts to be pitching there, but where else will he get work? our starters have been outstanding. Now, that is in no way an excuse for his BB/9 IP ratio. I'm just saying that I think it will be less of a problem when he is doing the long relief role he is groomed for. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So leadoff walks and other walks won't hurt in long relief? It may not hurt as much but it will still hurt. Cotts has 54 career walks and 75 career strikeouts. That's terrible. I have no doubt that Kenny will deal for a lefty reliever at the deadline. Another Neal Cotts apologist. I swear, between last season and this season the kid can do no wrong. Nothing is every his fault. If Ozzie decides to use Cotts for one batter, regardless of his perceived long relief role, his job is to retire the hitter. He failed. Doesn't change my confidence in his abilities, but I understand Ozzie's frustration. Nothing is more irritating than a reliever walking the first batter he faces upon entering the game. Capn12
I think it's quite obvious already what we will need to trade for by the deadline But I have no doubt that Kenny will make a move for a RELIABLE lefty reliever if we are still winning like crazy by the trading deadline. I have no doubt that Kenny will deal for a lefty reliever at the deadline. SO basically what you are saying is, you have no doubt we'll make a move? I'm not making excuses for Cotts' ability to seemingly walk someone every outing. Just really hate the "jump on Cotts and call him Botch" stupid s***. Ya, he has struggled...but nowhere CLOSE to Kochs complete breakdown with us.

He failed. But stop and think. When was the last time Cotts got into a game? It's been a while. Ozzie's got to pitch him at some point, and do so again to try and get him into a rythem. We don't have many 9 run leads this year. When is a good time for Ozzie to pitch him?

And rightfully, Oz went and yanked his ass out after the 1 walk. Never anywhere have I said I'm a "Neal Cotts apologist" as you put it. southsider2k5
One more thing that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere that could explain some of the wildness... Last night was Neal Cotts's first appearence since Wed April 24th, which was a full two weeks prior. Last night was also only the 8th appearence for Neal, covering only 7 innings in 28 games. sox-r-us
Just so we do not lose count: Excuses for why Botch is a loser from the Botch apologists: - He is a long reliever, so when put into short inning situations, he is bound to fail. It is obviously Ozzie's fault there. - He is a starter (that is what he excels in ... cough cough cough cough ). Hence he is going to fail when asked to pitch in any relief situation. - He is still waaaaaaaay tooooooo young, so cut him some slack. - He has been under-used recently hence it has hurt his ability and confidence. This is all Ozzie and/or Kenny's fault. Major conspiracy theory here to prevent Botch from winning a Cy Young Any more?
