Could somebody expound on this...

I saw this in the Trib and had never been aware of it:

"But then rumors began circulating—and they recently were confirmed by Sox manager Ozzie Guillen—that Sox pitchers didn't like throwing to Olivo."

Anybody ever really heard this before? Ya know...I've pitched all my life...in college and still in a men's hardball league out here....and I know there are some guys I hate throwing too...for various reasons. Wonder what the deal was with Olivo.

Still, this is going to bite us in the end. EVERY player that has left in the last year has been spoken of in some negative capacities. I really think free agents would hesitate to go somewhere if the perception is that you will leave on bad terms. Ozzie and to an exten JR/KW have a long ways to go in improving the image of the Sox as a place a player can trust.

If that were the case, then why would AJ sign with us??? And how could we have attracted a stud bullpen pitcher in Hermanson??? And exactly why would Iguchi even think of leaving Japan to come here???

Not EVERYONE leaves on bad terms here. And those who do do so for a reason. Ozzie and co. don't bash EVERYONE who leaves the organization.

Saying stuff like that does nothing but harm...

I don't think he cares. I'm glad he doesn't care. I like a manager that won't take s*** from anyone and will speak whatever he damn well cares to speak. I don't believe in talking by the book just so you look good...it's phony.

Keep it up Oz. Speak your mind.

I beleive this is very old news. Wasn't this said right in the beginning as the reason why the Sox were down on him? This is not anything new that was said by Ozzie or the White Sox organization. This was said when we acquired Garcia.

One thing I do know is the Mariners have been spending LOTS of time drilling catching fundamentals into Miguel Olivo's head. They've been working with him on just about everything.

And he'll probably improve as he goes, but the Sox had a very similar approach with him.
