Didn't see this posted. If it was...sorry.

Did you see that damned Cub fan throw back Everett's first homer last night? I wonder if that guy received a pummeling.?

People at the game said it was a Twins fan..?? :huh

Maybe, but the guys around him all seemed to be wearing Cub gear.

Either way, throwing a souvenir back is one stuuuuuuuuuuupid "tradition".

I agree.

Did anyone hear the radio commercial about this (it being stupid to throw balls back)...? It was sometime last week when Jim and I were driving home from work.. I haven't heard it since - but I haven't been listening to the radio.. anyone else hear it?

Yeah, I like it.

The PR department has been great under Brooks, IMO.

Except for that Podsednik one that ends with the guy saying "maybe you should listen to the game in the car"....I know it's supposed to be a joke, but any commercial that ends with a guy trying to dissuade you from attending the game is a mistake, I think.

Yeah, a guy wearing a Cubs jersey almost got hit by the ball so I figured it was just a Cub fan.

I don't know if it's stupid. What is stupid is stealing the tradition from another team. Every team has their own traditions. They should stay that way. Come up with your own! Kinda like the Bulls entrance. Everybody does that now. BS!

Steff, no, I haven't heard that, but I'll bet it's hilarious!

The voice is serious and so matter of fact.. I was LMAO..

They've done a good job with the radio commercials. Even before Brooks I thought they had some clever ideas. Now, the TV spots are a different story. :puke

I called my mom to see if she saw what I did. I couldn't believe it. I hope security escorted him out.

I've heard it and I love it, I wish it didn't hint at 'the other team in town' but it's still great.

Aren't they supposed to kick you out of the park for throwing things onto the filed? I would imagine, this includes HR balls, no? This is what the Sox need to do, make an example of the idiots who do it. The tradition is lame, not to mention dangerous.

He was also the evil Dad in Dead Poets Society that drove his kid to suicide.

Ooooooh Red.

Oh yeah, he was the administrator of a prison in that crappy movie with Christopher Lambert....I can't remember the name. Something with a gigantic prison....Fortress I think.

I did get to see someone throw the ball back on TV, but am not sure whether it was the Cub fan or not. Whoever it was made a very stupid decision. I like many hate to see it when a homerun ball is thrown back into the field... mostly when it happens in your home field.

Really, what it all boils down to is choosing to do something selfish or to do something selfless. Giving the ball to a kid would make another person happy, and the sad fact is that not enough people care about pleasing anyone but themselves.

Add to that the sheeplike "trendiness" factor and there you have it - the ball goes flying back on the field.

It kind of sounds like Red Foreman, but I don't think it's him.  That's a good description of the voice though.

Nope, it's him.

A friend of mine was sitting right next to the guy who threw the ball back. Apparently the guy claims he is neither a Cub fan or a Twins fan. All the fans next to him kept asking why he would throw the ball back and he had no answer for them (I can't imagine that being anyone's first reaction -- "hey, I got a home run ball . . . maybe the players want it back . . ."). I can't explain how stupid it is to go after a home run ball at, apparently, your home ballpark and then throw it back. He received a lot of crap for it the rest of the game. No doubt he'll think before he acts next time! Kudos to the fans who let him know that is not how business is done on this side of town!

Wasn't this in another thread? I think Tru was the one who said he always throws the ball back, and he doesn't care about giving it to kids and doesn't care what anyone thinks.

It was. But since he's in Houston, it doesn't matter.
