Looking ahead to next year

I know this is waaaaay too early but seeing Nomar go down yesterday and probably lost for the season (if the groin is indeed torn) had me thinking

We do not need to add any pitchers in the offseason since all 5 will be coming back and BMac will have one more year under him to help in case of injuries

As for the line up, the biggest hole will be DH since Carl is a FA and Big Frank may be one too. Now, my first choice is to keep Frank here. If Carl has a nice season like he is on to right now, I doubt he comes back to play second fiddle to Frank.

Hence, I think we should pursue Nomah to be a part time infielder (split with Uribe at SS) and even play a little DH some times. Given he may be out for the year, his value will plummet further not making him too attractive on the open market (and not many people wanted him this past off season so that can only get worse). I doubt the Cubs re-sign him.

Thoughts?

For obvious reasons I think we should stay clear from Nomar.. Seems like he gets injured every year

We should resign Frank, let him finish his career here.. At the DH spot I honestly wouldnt mind .255 40 110+ from him, I think that would be acceptable plus I am shooting low on the AVG there, I think he will be higher anyways..

Will the relationship Tellum and JR have, Nomar to the Sox is always a possibility. Especially since Uribe is versitle enough to play 2b or 3b. That being said, with all of our IF haveing their rights owned through at least 2006, there is not much of a chance of this happening.

Frank will be our DH in 2006 and 2007.

I disagree with your post. I think that our main objective is going to be building our team from the minor league system. Its hard to deny that Brian Anderson may be ready for the bigs next year. I think that its not too far off to think that Dye may be DH'ing a little bit while Anderson fills in the outfield. I still think that Crede is gone and Fields will be up. Also there is a possibilty that our bullpen may also be filled in with a few new guys as well. All in all, I look forward to rebuilding from the ground up in 2007.

Just heard on ESPN radio that Nomah will go under the knife. Not sure when he returns yet but might be after two months at best or next year at worst

...just thinking about a doctor taking a knife to my groin would give me a heart attack. :bang

Looking at our team right now, I would say our most pressing need would be a closer.. we need someone who is going to be THE man to come in and nail the game down..

I honestly want Jenks to be that man, but if its someone else, whatever... Im just tired of us having a committee every season.. We need a damn closer who is going to be the guy we turn to, not maybe you one day or you the next.. ONE GUY!!!

If surgery is needed to repair the muscle he will be gone for the year. Muscles are extremely difficult to do surgery on and even harder to rehab. One surgeon I worked with said "it is like trying to permanently tie two pieces of spagetti together."

So your guess is he will likely be out for at least 5 months if the muscle has torn off the bone?

So far I've seen everything between 2 months minimum and gone for the year maximum.

I agree, thats kinda would i meant about our bullpen. I think that if Jenks could be a closer, then our bullpen would be set. I would like a better lefty, but I seriously think Cotts needs a little more time developing another pitch. I seriously envision Anderson, Sweeney and Spods as our outfield of the future. With A-row maybe in there as well. Maybe im a bit off base, but I really think those two guys are going to be studs.

There is an option on him.

Yep...

http://mlb4u.com/chw.html

Carl Everett: 2-Year deal worth 7.5M- deal includes 2005 and 2006 options- will make 3M over one year,  or 7.5M over 2 years or possibly 12M for three years- he will receive a 3M salary in 2004 and then has a 4M player option for 2005- If he exercises it, the team would add a 5M Team option for 2006 with a 500K buyout- his 2005 Player option worth 4M was EXERCISED by Carl on 10/28/04, thus a 2006 Team option worth 5M w/ 500K buyout was ADDED to deal

So we now have a $5 million team option on Carl for next season with a $500,000 buyout.
