CWSGuy406
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) Timo doesnt have bad defense..... I know you all hate the way he catches the ball but he always makes the catch so I dont see how that makes him a bad defender. He also has a really good arm too. It's simple. Poor range = bad defense. And Timo has poor range. I don't care the way he catches the ball. Whatever works -- he hasn't dropped one catching it like that, so whatever. But he's slow as hell, and makes diving catches that make him look good when in reality, another OFer would make the same play look ten times easier. Whitewashed in '05
With Gloads performance last season and with our offense as of late not being able to put up good numbers I don't see why Oz hasn't fitted Gload into the lineup. He claims he loves Gload but never puts him in there. I also want to see more of Gload.

When someone gets rested in the outfield he should be the first one of the bench to replace them, not timo. If you take rowand out shift podsednik into center ( even though he is a butcher in the field himself). If podsednik has a day off put gload in left... and so on. I am not asking for gload to start this year but the first of the bench does not seem silly to say.

Konerko was having a minislump either the hr or nothing, maybe one day at first. With Pods being out a few days he could have played him. You can't say theres no where to put him at all. Jabroni
Timo can play some CF while Gload can barely play LF or RF, yet Timo isn't that much better defensively than Gload? Ridiculous. Timo is not a center fielder... he is too slow for it. Yes, i know he has played there in the past but he can't get to s*** in the corners and we would feel comfortable with him in center? Timo catches what he gets to, the problem is getting to it. I've seen him misplay one ball this year and in spring training when I was down there I'll tell you he was getting outstanding jumps. As I said before I couldn't recall his defense when he was with the brewers so maybe he wasn't a great centerfielder but as of right now I'd classify him as a pretty good left fielder from what I've seen out of him. Obviously it's early but that's my early opinion on him.

His arm is also a noodle arm ( wo0t he has one assist that anyone could have made) he also has problems picking the ball up much like rowand who does it every other game and it really pisses me off to no end. I know what i have heard about him and seen from him in the past and he was bad. I can only hope it changes for the better but i do not have high hopes. You don't have to respond since i know how you feel about his defense.

3E8
Timo was tied for second in outfield assists last year with 8, trailing only Carlos who had 11 and played in all but 14 games. Converted most double plays from the outfield, 4. Timo also had a better range factor in RF than Borchard, who most would consider a decent RF. He's not spectacularly quick in the outfield but I don't think he should be called a bad outfielder. Especially since he played at least 12 games in each outfield position. Any other guy on this team would be given leeway in adjustment period. Edited April 22, 2005 by 3E8

DBAHO
It all depends on this equation; Does Gload's value in hitting outweigh the defensive mistakes he'll be prone to make in the outfield? Does Gload fielding in the outfield increase the chances of giving up more runs than he would score in the batting box. To me, I'd probably say yes, but that doesn't make me still want Timo Perez in the everyday lineup.
YASNY
I don't want Timo in the lineup every day either. But Gload should not play outfield. I'm sorry, he's just bad out there. He's slick around 1B and has a good bat. He's a good ballplayer, but he's a bad outfielder. This team is constructed around pitching and defense. It's winning. Let's keep the defense solid as often as possible. I don't think Gload's bat is worth the risk of having him on the field anywhere but 1B. So is everett and you will see him in the outfield again. I don't think 50 games in the outfield (only 31 of those were starts) should define a players defensive ability. I think he can be an adequate outfielder if not better than that. I agree that we should keep the defense as good as possible but a few starts in the outfield for gload would not suddenly make the outfield s***ty.
