During an interview after the game, Busty said he'd have to go "back to the drawing board" when it comes to the closer situation. He said for some reason Hawkins just isn't good in 1-run situations.

Hey Busty, maybe it's because his nickname is LaChoke Hawkins. :lolhitting

Problem with their closer situation is no other pitcher within their bullpen is worthy of the role.

Wuertz

Rusch

Remlinger

Fox

(may be missing one)

None strike me as possessing quality stuff or mental toughness. Our team, however, has several relievers capable of sharing closing opportunities with Shingo.

Baker's club is really in a bind. Too bad Hendry might actually have to give up talent, or what's left in their minors, for a legitimate SS/RP. Of course, there's always small market clubs Hendry can extract talent from in exchange for paying the remainder of large contracts.

They may as well trade that Dubois kid for a closer, cuz Dumbass Dusty won't use him anyway. He's not a 10-year veteran, so The Pitcher Killer has no use for him.

Flash, I think Jon Leicester was the other lily-livered reliever you were thinking of.

Nice to see that the Sox have four closers and the Cubs have none. Borowski has the mental part, but came down with a glass arm like so many other Cub pitchers.

And there's also Cliff Bartosh in the pen for the Flubs. And as Critic mentioned who can forget the "Ice Man" John Leicester?

The sad thing is that Greg Maddux was looking for win #1 of the season.

Exactly why is that a sad thing? I think it's great that "Maddox" hasn't won a game yet!!! :fthecubs

After reading the Sox gamethread tonight, the Cubs let that Sisco kid (pun intended) go as Rule V draftee.  Ya think they may be regretting that move?

Let's see here, last outing against us in 1 inning he struck out Dye, A.J and Rowand and he's only given up 2 runs in 13 1/3 innings.

OOPS.

It is interesting that some of the guys they're letting go ( Sisco, Willis ) are having some success while the guys they hold close to their hearts ( Guzman, Brownlie ) haven't sniffed the majors yet.

Although to be fair, I think the same could probably be said of many teams.

I was thinking the samething after watching the kid pitch. He has a live arm and could make an excellent closer.

Papers in Chicago today saying Wood had a flare up of tendonitis in his shoulder. He is downplaying the severity and Baker claims the 5 inning stint was more precautionary.

This is the same ailment that's been bothering Wood for quite some time, certainly during spring training and going back to last year and maybe even further.

They have a problem, no doubt about it. Wood and Baker may be downplaying this, but ongoing shoulder tendonitis is not good.

Like I predicited earlier, Wood will be on the DL before Memorial Day.
