ORton has a very strong arm and has been a cold weather player. He plays in a wide open offense and only threw 5 interceptions. He did a nice job reading defenses and is 1000 times the player Krenzel ever was (if were talking about offensive abilities).

Agree 101, McPherson was the lone QB on the board who I had rated higher than Orton in terms of pro potential. Problem with McPherson is I can't look past his gambling problems. He definately appears to have his head on straight now though and he's as good of tools as any qb in the draft, imo (although I happen to really like Alex Smith).

Orton was a product of Purdue's offense. In games where the opposition took away the short pass, he was bad. I just think that in the 4th round, you should pick guys who can develop into big time players, and not be likely career back-ups. A guy like McPherson would have given us another dimension. I would have much rather seen Mike Williams, J.J. Arrington, and McPherson instead of Benson, Bradley, and Orton. The Currie pick has been our best value pick so far.

Could money have been a factor as far as picking Orton over McPherson?

Is the NFL draft and signing picks basically, where you go, you'll get that type of money. Or is it more like the baseball draft, where, if you have a crazy enough agent (ehem, Boras), you could get a lot of money no matter where you're picked?

There's no rigid slotting, but b/c of the cap-within-a-cap for your draft picks, there's not much leeway. I doubt the choice had anything to do with money, I think the Bears (along with basically the entire NFL) were scared away by his past.

I don't know much about him, but from what I've read I'm beginning to like the Orton pick...

I am absolutely shocked Gerald Sensabaugh is falling this far. This is a safety at 6' 1/2 210 pounds, 4.46 40, 46 inch vertical leap and a very solid tackler. His coverage skills need some refinement because UNC had no pass rush in his year here, but he's an absolute diamond in the rough.
