I'll be listening to Rooney and Farmer.  Hawk is insufferable during A's games.

When is he not insufferable?

I listened to those guys on TV today and it was just flat out horrible.

DJ really needs to go. The guy is completely clueless.

Same here, Gene.

Over/Under on how many times in the series, Hawk says, "You can do anything when you got three 20-game winners..."?

Late, late games. That's OK, though, I sort of like 'em anyways.

Oh, and how could I forget -- Billy-ball!

The most ironic thing about that statement, is it pretty much encapsulates the White Sox early season success. OK, there's not a 20-game winner on the staff, but you've got 5 guys doing pretty damn good impressions of 20-game winners.

You can stand to bat .200 with RISP, and have an OBP of .300 as a team, with a pitching staff like that.

I think the A's are doing pretty good getting rid of 3/5 of their starting rotation, 2 of them being Mulder and Hudson. Haren and Blanton look like future studs to me. This is going to be really tough since we face Harden and Zito but I think we can win one of those guys and than beat the scrub we are facing in game 3 of the series.

Notes for Game 1:

White Sox travel to House of Horrors

Chicago (15-4) at Oakland (9-10), 9:05 p.m. CT

Garland's player page

Garland's career stats

After amassing the best record in baseball, only one thing could stop the mighty White Sox: A return to McAfee Coliseum, a.k.a the House of Horrors.

The White Sox went 1-5 in Oakland last year and have won just two of 15 games there since the beginning of the 2002 season. And in those 15 games, the Sox have been outscored 92-46.

"We know we've got problems out there," said left-hander Mark Buehrle, who is slated to start Tuesday against the A's. "But there are a lot of new guys here who really don't fall into that category."

The A's have more than a few new faces, too. More important for the Sox, though, a few old nemeses no longer wear the green and gold.

"[barry] Zito, [Mark] Mulder and [Tim] Hudson," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "That's three pretty good reasons (to not like going there). That's a good enough reason."

Indeed, but of those three, only Zito still pitches by the bay, and he's 0-3 this season with an ERA dangerously close to 7.00.

With the way the South Siders have opened the season, maybe they can finally exorcise whatever has been bothering them in the Coliseum.

Pitching matchup

CWS: RHP Jon Garland

• 3-0, 2.57 ERA in 2005

• 0-1, 3.86 in 2004 against OAK

OAK: LHP Barry Zito

• 0-3, 6.94 ERA in 2005

• 1-0, 3.29 in 2004 against CWS

Player to watch

After hitting seven home runs in 14 games, Paul Konerko has gone five games without hitting even one. During that stretch, the first baseman batted just 3-for-17 (.176) with one RBI. Since joining the White Sox in 1999, he is batting .280 (52-for-186) against the A's.

Quotable

"Being able to win the close games, the one-run or two-run games, or whatever, those are big confidence-builders for the team. We've been fortunate enough to be on the winning end of those and, hopefully, we can continue." -- Outfielder Aaron Rowand on the team's hot start

Quick hits

After El Duque allowed one earned run over five innings Sunday, the White Sox starter's ERA dropped to an American League-best 2.84 (39 earned runs allowed in 123 2/3 innings). That ERA is more than one-half run better than the Red Sox, who, at 3.42 entering Sunday, had the league's second-best starter's ERA. ... The White Sox committed four errors Sunday for the first time since May 26, 2003, at Toronto. The last time the South Siders won while committing four errors was July 26, 2001, at Milwaukee. ... Joe Crede's career-best hitting streak ended Sunday at 14 games after the third baseman went 0-for-4.

Zito has been lit up like a Christmas tree this season so far, giving up a grand slam in the 1st his last time out... One of my best friends lives in Oakland and I'll never hear the end of it if they continue their winning ways over the White Sox. I want someone to make Barry Zito cry tonight, c'mon boys!!

This will be the Sox toughest test to date. Tougher than the Twins series.

Mon: LH Barry Zito (0-3, 6.94) vs. RH Jon Garland (3-0, 2.57);

Tue: RH Rich Harden (2-0, 0.44) vs. LH Mark Buehrle (3-1, 2.61);

Wed: RH Kirk Saarloos (1-1, 6.30) vs. RH Freddy Garcia (2-1, 3.21).

Wed game is a day game so expect the subs again.
