Matthews was signed as a minor league free agent in January and made the team in spring training. He was 1-0 with a 10.80 ERA in six games and gave up four hits and three runs while recording just two outs in his last appearance Sunday against Washington. He appeared in 35 games for Cincinnati last season and has also pitched for St. Louis, Milwaukee and San Diego. Ring came to the Mets organization from the Chicago White Sox in the Roberto Alomar trade two years ago. He was 5-3 with Norfolk and Double-A Binghamton last season.
