Any word on Uribe & Guch?

This was a bizarro series. The Sox proved to be a comedy of errors in late innings.

Throw in some questionable calls by umpires that gave the A's an edge & the Sox lost their first series of the year.

How many series will Dye & Rowand make dumbfounded errors? Not many. Their careers indicate they are better than average to good. How many series will Harris blow a play? Not many. He's not expected to play that much.

The Sox lost their first series of the year. Was it a lack of talent? No. They gave it away. Guess what? They will win their share of games this year where the opposition give it away. The season is a war consisting of about 50 battles. We lost one due to our own negligence rather than the enemy's prowress

What's far more important are the casualties resulting from the battle. We our not very deep when it comes to the middle IF. We need Uribe & Guch back on the field. Their presence is the difference between winning & losing series. Their bats are just as important as their gloves for this team. If they can't play we're in trouble.

The official site says Uribe might be ready by Friday but Uribe himself thinks it may take a few more days. Personally I don't see him playing this weekend.

Iguchi I presume will be evaluated on Friday, he told Guillen he had a banged up knee and couldn't go today. I don't know what that means in terms of his availability for the Detroit series.

Ozuna had trouble gripping the bat today and obviously did not play. There was no mention of a break or fracture so no news is good news. Just guessing but I presume he is day to day.

Did not hear or read anythng further on Gload. Contreras was named the starter for Friday so he has apparantly recovered enough.

We will hear more tomorrow and Friday, I'm sure.

This was in today's Trib

White Sox backup infielder Pablo Ozuna had trouble gripping a pastry as well as swinging a bat Wednesday morning.

That was enough to scratch him from Wednesday's lineup at Oakland. Ozuna and at least two other teammates will receive treatment on Thursday's off-day as the result of injuries suffered in Tuesday's night's wacky 9-7 loss to the A's.

Ozuna was struck near the left hand by a pitch from reliever Keiichi Yabu and had the area tightly wrapped.

The most serious injury could be a right groin pull suffered by shortstop Juan Uribe, who was walking gingerly around the visitors' clubhouse before Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the A's.

Uribe suffered the injury while taking a pitch from Yabu in the seventh inning and left the game with a 3-0 count. Uribe had 10 hits in his last 23 at-bats (.435) before the injury.

Second baseman Tadahito Iguchi also was scratched from Wednesday's starting lineup because of a right knee bruise. Iguchi was taken out at second base on a hard slide by Oakland's Scott Hatteberg while turning a double play in the second inning of Tuesday night's game but played all nine innings before waking up with soreness.

The only good news is Jose Contreras still is scheduled to pitch against Detroit on Friday night. Contreras suffered a lower right hamstring strain last Saturday.

MVPWillie also has much, much better range than Iguchi.  It isn't much of a choice, but it has to be Willie over Tadahito.

Agreed.

But, please, let's not make it appear Cooperstown has a cannon.

Famine or pestilence.
