CSF
QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Abreu makes like $12 Well I've got $20 in my pocket. I'm willing to sacrifice it for the good of the team!
witesoxfan
QUOTE(C_LEE45 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) well maybe since we started out hot KW will open the pocket book!!!!!! Probably not, since he is probably making as much as Ben Davis, if not less.
southsider2k5
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) $4.6 million doesn't fit into the budget, especially since we are paying Ben Davis $1 million to play for Charlotte. I wouldn't be so sure of that, especially as we get to the trading deadline. JR went on the air a while back and said that there is still money in the budget. Plus if we can keep winning and increase the attendance, we will add someone, just like we have for years now. Lets not forget that payroll has gone up 50% from the end of 2002 until today, and JR has always added players for a team in contention. There is no doubt if the sox need to open the wallet sometime this year they'll do it and if this team needs to make a deal you know kenny will. This weekend could go a long ways towards that too, if we can draw 80K for an April Tigger series that's like manna from heaven. Btw, I heard they're expecting huge crowds for the O's series too which is another uncharacteristic surprise.
CanOfCorn
Barring injuries to current players, where do you upgrade? Each starter has a role to fill...so maybe bench depth?

And that's what Polanco would be since I don't see them benching Uribe, Iguchi or, believe it or not, Crede. If Crede falls back to form, or more accurately, had always maintained previous form, then Polanco could be inserted as the starting 3Bman. But with Crede's hot start, any chance of benching him, remote to begin with, is now nil. I always though Polanco would have been a good offseason pick-up in lieu of Iguchi but so far Iguchi has impressed.

Keep that perspective in mind. That being said, I don't think the Sox make a move for someone like this unless Uribe is hurt badly. Not just 15 day DL hurt, but groin tear hurt. And that is not the case here.

They don't need a SS... perez is working fine... what they NEED is a bullpen(closer) so i don't see this guy goin to the scrubs anytime this year. JUGGERNAUT
I would agree. If the Sox SP is still amongst the best in the league then I see the team going after a bonified closer. Especially if one doesn't emerge from Shingo, Marte, & Hermy, or Viz. I'm sure Mesa will be available amongst others. I wouldn't be surprised if Dye isn't part of the deal. So far he hasn't factored much in the winning. If you're willing to throw in a little cash he becomes very attractive to teams struggling for hitters. His career ERA in the playoffs of 4.41 does not help matters. Now, if we're talking Billy Wagner, then that is a different story.

It's really sad seeing all these people watching Neifi Perez bat .393 and think it's for real, that he'll be like this all year. Neifi Perez sucks, he spen 6 years in Colorado and never batted over .298 that is the sign of a s***ty hitter. He leaves the Rockies and goes ot KC what does he do there well he hits .241 his first year and .236 his second and final year with the Royals. 2003 with the Giants he hits .256 and .232 in 2004 with San Fran before they release him after 103 games that season. Neifi Perez is a f***ing Horrible hitter. The only thing he brings to a team is an above average glove and some dominished speed.
Punch and Judy Garland
yeah but perez has leather. THat's still the primary job of the shortstop-even in the Nomar-A-Rod-tejada era
