BHAMBARONS
Chattanooga 7 Barons 4 W-Valdez L- Villicas Valdez 5IP 4H 2R 2BB 3K's Villicas 4IP 7H 7R 1ER 1BB 3K's Good- Jerry Owens had another great day 2-4 with a walk on base 3 more times and also drove a ball to the CF Wall. Chris Young 3-4 today on base 4 times Drove in 2 runs in the 9th with a shot down the LF line. The Bullpen of Glen, LaMura, Reynoso and Jenks were lights out to bad the game was out of reach when they came in. Bullpen had 7K's in 5 innings of work. Reynoso scoreless streak now reaches 11 2/3 innings. Jenks now had a 9 inning scorless streak. Chris Young made an outstanding catch in CF and turned it into a DP Bad- a Huge Josh Feilds mistake on a ball he had plenty of time to get to with a catcher running but instead threw high which by the time it was over allowed 6 unearned runs to score. Villicas struggled as Lookout hitter's pounded his first pitch early and often no soft hits all rockets. Villicas instead of picking up Feilds and his decided to pout and allow Chattanooga to put up a 6 spot which was enough to win. Take that inning off the board and Barons would have won. Notes-Tomorrow Nik Lubisich takes to the hill to face a very good West Tennesse Team they are the flubs affilate which brings about a hated rivalry Niether manager really cares for the other so it will be interseting to see these next three games. DBAHO
Right now how good is the Jerry Owens trade looking. That could end up being a real big steal in the future if he can continue to impress in Charlotte, and then hopefully in the majors. Please oh please let some organization let Jim Bowden be their GM. Chisoxfn
Technically speaking in Bham, but I know thats what you meant Andrew. I just figured since its always me getting corrected for once I'd correct someone else But ya that deal is looking outstanding. Now if only Kenny could get Bowden to give up someone like Owens for Borch.

Right now with Owens, if he continues hitting the way he does, when do you promote him to Charlotte, if that's what you decide to do, and who do you demote? Maybe it's time to get rid of Borch to make room for him, although they'll probably consider sending down someone like Mike Spidale first. I get the feeling Borch could be involved in a deadline deal. Especially if a bottom of the barrel team is who we deal with.

I think you give him a whole season in Birmingham. We have no reason to rush the kid. Remember, he's only had a couple years of organized ball after leaving UCLA's football team. There is nothing wrong with letting him get his feet firmly planted on the ground. We have a plethora of OF prospects and a full OF for all of this year if not all of next year as well, and Brian Anderson is ready to play now, but has nowhere to go. They are in a position to take a flyer on Borchard, give him lots of playing time and see if the switch turns on. Unfortunately Joe is off to such a bad start, he's not helping himself on any front. BHAMBARONS
QUOTE(JimH @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) I agree, leave him where he's at and let him settle in. He is devloping well he is an excellent bunter, got a sweet line drive stroke, uses the bunt as a weapon which makes 1st and 3rd basemen play in then he shoots the ball over there heads and through the holes. Jerry also has great speed and in a smart base stealer. Owens in the last few games has been developing a good power stroke in the last week Owens has hit 3 balls that would have been Homeruns at the Cell and most ballparks but the Met holds them in and Owens has to settle for Doubles and Triples. I saw him in spring training and liked what I saw. Very fast and appears to know how to use his speed.
