I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but Contreras has 25 pitches through 2 innings.  He's on pace to almost go the distance.

By that logic, Greinke is on pace to go 17 innings...

Even nastier considering Jose actually throws his fastball this year.

Berroa grounds out, Jose is working quick so far.

His fastball really makes that forkball unhittable. And I really like that he is mixing in that sidearm curveball in some too. Lots of arm angles and actions for the hitters to worry about.

Yup, I completely agree. He still has control issues but he can pitch this year and that's what he couldn't do last year. That's the difference between this year and last for him so far imo.

Greinke has another easy inning.

The control issues aren't going to go away. With as much varience as Jose has in his arm angles and his motions, it is hard to lock into the right slot on each pitch. The key is to make the off speed stuff look hittable and get hitters to swing at it.

Once again completely agreed.

Usually contreras would be at 300 pitches by now. He's having one of those days where he's completely in control it looks like. Hopefully that'll keep up and the o can manufacture something against Greinke.

:huh

greinke is the man

Well, I think we're a little better than this. I'm sure we'll start hitting soon, but I'm feeling sorry for Contreras because he has glided through 3 innings and it looks like he might get a ND again.
