Shingo has earned the Job back. Marte had no business being out there in the ninth after Zaun was up. It's like even when he pitches well Ozzie still has no confidence in him. Shingo has pitched well lately and he should be the closer. I have more faith in Shingo than I do with Marte. Hermy should be out there if Shingo is tired or the matchup dictates it. The matchup didn't dictate Hermy being out there. Marte should only be out there if the matchup dictates it.

Shingo's last save was anything but routine.

T Graffanino flied out to center.

M Sweeney walked.

M Stairs walked, M Sweeney to second.

E Brown ran for M Stairs.

K Harvey struck out looking.

M Sweeney to third, E Brown to second on wild pitch by S Takatsu.

T Long flied out to center.

If that's pitching well, we're in trouble when he's not on.

I think he just sort of walked sweeney because he knew how badly sweeney has killed the Sox. I'm fine with him walking sweeney. I also think he was just being really careful because both Stairs and Sweeney are dangerous hitters. The point is most closers make things interesting. I don't care how interesting it gets as long as he gets the job done. Edited by White Sox Josh

I disagree. I like the way Ozzie is managing the pen this year, particularly the closer situation. Marte was brought in to face the other guys (lefty vs. lefty, I believe) and there's no sense bringing in Shingo since Marte had handled the other guys well enough.

The only reason to be mad is if you have Shingo on your fantasy team...

He was ahead in the count to Sweeney 1-2 and threw 3 straight balls. That's just missing your spots not pitching around a guy.

Well Buehrle also had Sweeney 1-2 twice before Sweeney hit a home run each time. If it wasn't sweeney up than I would be pissed but I'm glad he didn't give Sweeney anything to hit.

Unfortunately for you, you're not the manager.

Marte's ending wasn't anything special either... 2 people got on 2nd and 3rd before he could get 2 outs? Shingo's better :D

but go Marte

No, fortunately for us, he's not the manager.

Shingo has no business being the closer right now.

It's going by the matchups and that's what you'll continue to see as long as Hermanson and Marte stay hot.

And also, who makes a thread like this in the midst of an 8-game winning streak? :huh

Ozzie explained why he stuck with Marte and didn't bring Shingo in at all in the 9th...

"Their best two hitters are on the bench. If I bring in [shingo] Takatsu, they're going to bring in [Frank] Catalanotto and [Eric] Hinske. Those two guys can hit the ball out of the ballpark. That was in the back of my mind. We'll take the chance with Marte."

Ozzie says he goes with his gut instinct, but he usually has a pretty damn good reason behind that gut instinct.

I agree they both can pitch in the 9th and Ozzy does have a good idea of who to put in most of the time. I think it all depends on who they are playing and who is going to be up in the 9th they both throw really diffrent stuff like them both very much but if i had to pick one in the 9th most of the time i got Marte

Catalanotto is a noted Sox killer as well. I don't know the career stats but there must be a good reason why I hate him.

The entire bullpen will get plenty of work in the next 3 weeks, no doubt about that. This is a long stretch of games coming up.

Yeah, Cat hits fairly well against us...

Frank Catalanotto (career stats vs. Sox)

170 AB

.282 AVG

.326 OBP

.453 SLG

4 HR

21 RBI

It seems like he has killed us a lot more than that though.

It was pitching careful to him because you can't let Mike beat you, period. Shingo's been pretty damn good as of late, the thing is most closers make things interesting before they shut the door. Shingo's 8 for 9 in save opps and he's been fine as of late, I have no problem with Hermey or shingo closing, it just bothers me when ozzie uses more then 1 pitcher in the 9th, however in saying that it has seemed to work every time so I have nothing to complain about as of right now.
