RockRaines
Wiki Gonzalez may get the bulk of the playing time at catcher for the Mariners this week. Manager Mike Hargrove said Gonzalez will start behind the plate tonight and ''beyond that, too.'' Miguel Olivo is hitting just .139 this season. RockRaines
if olivo is dropped or benched, I think it pretty much makes us look like bandits on that trade.

Guest JimH
Mike Morse, the SS/3B in the trade, is coming on strong so Seattle definitely got some value IMO. I like Reed too. Olivo appears to have issues between the ears, which is too bad, by all accounts he's an upstanding guy and teammate. But no question our catching situation is way better than a year ago at this time.
Punch and Judy Garland
I can't call us bandits yet when we supposedly insisted on dealing Reed instead of Borchard. Sitll happy with what we got though, we just didn't fleece them.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) I can't call us bandits yet when we supposedly insisted on dealing Reed instead of Borchard. Sitll happy with what we got though, we just didn't fleece them. It was going to be Reed all along supposedly. The big question was whether it would be Crede or Olivo. Rowand44
Miguel is what he is. Can't call a game but has a rocket arm. He can lay off the down and away breaking ball but if a lefty leaves him a fastball down the plate he'll hit it out of the park.
Jabroni
Reed has done well so far in his rookie season but I never thought much of Olivo. He can kill a fastball but he can't hit breaking stuff to save his life. He K's WAY too much. He kills lefties but can't hit righties. Punch and Judy Garland
Not sure where I heard differently but you are probably right. My Seattle friend is greatly impressed with the way Reed plays Center which was a concern at Safeco. Looks like he will be a good one and I think most around here are wishing him the best. Dick Allen
I'd take Olivo back in a heartbeat. He was crushed when he got traded from here. I don't think he ever got over it.
Heads22
If he ever left I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with the Nats. Him and Loaiza worked well together.

He is great behind the plate but he can't call a game to save his life and he's a hole in the lineup.
Punch and Judy Garland
He's a decent hitter at the plate as far as catchers go with his pop. He wouldn't be the first guy to have his pitches called from the dugout though. I'd take him back. Plus I remain loyal to guys who hit grand slams off the Cubs! Rowand44
He couldn't catch the damn ball behind the plate, that bothered me more then anything. I was getting sort of attatched to MO when he was traded and I'll always have a soft spot for the guy, I'll be wishing him the best for his entire career. That being said, I wouldn't want him back, aj's better at every aspect of the game except Miguel's obviously got the stronger arm.
Punch and Judy Garland
I always thought his passed balls were youthful lapses in concentration. I don't watch enough Seattle baseball to say how he's worked on that

Miguel Olivo (career stats) 709 AB .224 AVG .276 OBP .377 SLG .652 OPS 45 BB 191 SO That is pretty horrible even for a catcher. Chris Widger has better career numbers. I guess he will get better but he doesn't hit righties and can't hit a breaking ball to save his life. Edited May 10, 2005 by Jabroni
AngelasDaddy0427
Olivo will come around hopefully. I'd take him back as a backup catcher just because of his defense but no way would he take much playing time from AJ.
