Tony Pena to the Sox???

Ozzie Guiilen wants to bring Tony Pena back to the Sox.. I would love it if he came back to coach the sox....

I have read Harold doesnt like to be the bench coach so maybe Pena can be our next bench..

On topic, he was part of the White Sox organization before and has a great relationship with KW and Guillen and supposedly Reinsdorf as well. So it's not a stretch to think they'll try to get him back in the fold.

He needs to be bench coach. He would actually make a damn good manager, he just didn't have players in KC. Doesn't seem like they want to keep their good players either minus Mike Sweeney. Hopefully Tony could knock some sense into Ozzie if he does come in here, like brining in your 3 worst relievers into a tie ballgame.

On the Royals' message board, they're saying that Pena is having some legal problems, he had an affair, he's not coming back to baseball until at least 2006, etc.

Regardless of the other issues, it would make sense he'd want a breather. I suspect he won't resurface until next year and would further guess it will be with an organization other than KC.

Oh, I'm pretty positive he'll never touch KC again. Who would want to stay there, honestly? There's no hope for that team to even come close to contending for years and years.

I agree. It seemed like Pena had been using that kid Andy Sisco for 2 innings of relief work every damn day. He was pulling a Dusty on his young reliever.

This is what was in the Trib today...

 

Manager Ozzie Guillen said he would explore any openings in the Sox's organization for Tony Pena, who resigned Tuesday as Royals manager.

 

General manager Ken Williams hired Pena as the Sox's coordinator of Dominican operations in 1998, and Pena managed in the Arizona Fall League the same year.

 

"I know Kenny loves him—I know that for a fact," Guillen said. "If something opened, we'd be more than pleased to have him help us."

 

Guillen suspects Pena might not have resigned, as was announced.

 

"I know Tony is not a quitter," Guillen said. "He'll do anything in his power to make players better. He's one of the baseball men I admire the most. Sometimes it's not fair when you're not playing good and some of the guys have nothing to do with it are paying the price. But that's the way baseball is."

 

The Royals were 8-25 when Pena left. Guillen believes the expectations might have been inflated after Pena was named 2002 American League Manager of the Year, then saw marquee center fielder Carlos Beltran traded to Houston in the middle of last season.
