I took this right after Jonnie Struck out Tejada on one of the sickest pitches he's made in his career.......

He's a humble man, and wasn't jumping around like a goofball like Carlos Zambrano does quite Frequently.... this picture is the background of my computer... and will remain so for awhile.

Awesome pic Murc. I jumped out of my pants after the strike-out. I was so f***ing pumped! BTW, I read that Coop told Jon that Tejada was swinging 3-2 no matter what this season. It worked in Jon's favor!

Its ok if a pitcher shows emotion but that guys nuts. Its funny when Shingo shows emotion though.

Ah....How fast things change ....  :rolly

It was only yesterday that 90% of Sox fans used to boo Jon (and that includes 90% of the folks here) and call him arrogant and a jerk for bashing fans.

i was not a garland backer before this season and i admit that to everyone.

You have to give credit where credit is due and crow where crow is due (ie: me)

WGN showed a close up after the K, Garland let out a brief smile.

Great reaction, then he walked off the field.

I hope nobody turns on him if and when he has some s*** outings.

It will be weird to see him in the All Star game if he keeps this up a few more weeks.

only issue with garland and the all star game, is Francona will not see him untill after the ASG... so he will have to go on stats/news/stories

I was always a Garland backer... dont believe me go check the list  :headbang  and yes that tejada ab was awesome

No doubt about it, same for me. Although people did have a good point, he got a raise but didn't do anything different last season to earn it. He is now showing what he is capable of and he also deserved that raise.

Garland has always kept his emotions under control on the mound. I like a pitcher who doesn't get too excited or too disappointed in himself. I think baseball games are emotional enough without having to express yourself on every pitch. DJ made a good point about Garland during his last start in Toronto.

When Garland sucked, people said he didn't care and needed to show some emotion on the mound.

Now that he's rolling, people say that Garland has "quiet confidence".

Mmmmmmmmmmmm..................crowwwwwwwww............ :D

I was never a JG basher, nor was I a huge backer.

I felt he was a decent low end of the rotation guy, fairly reliable to eat some innings and get you double-digit wins.

NEVER did I think he'd have a 9-game winning streak ( he won his last 2 decisions of 2004, remember ).

He's shocked and amazed me this year with his execution, presence and composure.

You know, I absolutely hate this kind of 'see, I told you so' attitude.

s*** has changed. Garland was a s***ty pitcher before. He WAS arrogant, and he WAS a jerk for bashing fans, considering he is sitting here giving up 6 runs a game. And he wondered why we were b****ing.

Sox fans, as a whole, want you to produce to the best of your abilities. If you do not, they will grow unhappy with you very quickly.

With all that being said, Garland is a different pitcher this year from year's past. His stuff looks better. He is hitting his spots more often. He is pitching well enough to win each game...be that eating innings and giving up a few runs, or be it bearing down and giving up 2 runs in 8 innings against the best offense in baseball when your offense will only score you 3 runs. He has gone from a look of carelessness to a look of quiet confidence. His entire demeanor has changed on the mound, and you can see that, considering he already has 7 wins, more than half of the most wins he has had in any season, and the amount of wins he has had in the past 3 seasons, in just 7 starts.

We were wrong. Who gives a s***? Be happy that we are wrong and be glad that we were not right.

(and technically, it was not yesterday that 90% of Sox fans were calling him that, it was last year when he had an ERA of 4.80+ and was a mediocre pitcher)

/rant off

It's easy to say, we were wrong, who gives a s***. But I know I've been defending this guy for a couple of years now and had to put up with a lot of s*** about him on this board. So excuse me if it offends you, but I'm gonna send some s*** back your way, if you are deserving.

The funny thing is that if you are NEVER critical of any White Sox player you will never be wrong when and if they turn it around and become successful. Has Garland been mediocre for most of his career? Yes. Did Garland supporters even forsee him breaking out like he has this season? I doubt it.

I can be critical. But I rarely hate on guys. Navarro and Clayton are about it. There is a difference in being critical and insulting a ballplayers manhood (Judy). I try to give credit where credit is due. I point out when someone chokes or whatever without calling them a useless piece of s*** .... or Death .. or Palsy. You get the idea.

I'll also wait for a young player to learn how to play MLB. I won't criticize a guy like Baj for having a couple of bad innings the first time he's called up, nor will I rant on a guy for a bad moth or two. If this game was so easy, I'd be out there making millions of bucks. It takes time. So many have NO patience whatsoever. Garland's performance prior to this year was similar to an early Curt Shilling and better than a lot of others, worse than some others. It was too early to tell how he'd turn out, but I was willing to let him mature and learn.

Understood, but saying "I told you so" to people who bashed Garland in the past doesn't really make much sense. Garland would crap the bed and always give up the big inning in the past. As a fan, that is really frustrating. Many people blame Jerry Manuel for Garland's lack of confidence which could very well be true. Manuel would pull Garland as soon as he gave up a run or two. Anyways, I'd like to see some posts where Garland supporters predicted he would win 18 to 20+ games THIS season which it looks like he may very well do. Even Garland supporters didn't know or probably even think that he would break out the way he has this season.
