Ok here's the article I think;

The next two free-agent classes are not particularly strong, especially in young pitching. So do not be surprised to see MLB turn East for answers. The Padres, for one team, are not hesitating. Two of their top executives, Randy Smith and Fred Uhlman, were in Japan last week to see Seibu Lion ace Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is possibly Japan's best pitcher and likely to be posted after the season. Chiba Lotte ace Naoyuki Shimizu, Hanshin starter Kei Igawa and Yakult lefty reliever Hirotoshi Ishii are also pitchers who may try to come to the U.S. next year and have drawn interest of the Padres and others.

Shimizu currently has 2.72 ERA and is 4-2 in 7 games.

Matsuzaka with 1.77 ERA and 3-4.

And he lost 2 nights ago giving up 1 ER, 4 BB's and 7 hits over 8 innings. Certainly, signing Iguchi and Shingo has opened doors for us in Asia, and really is going to give us multiple options on the trade front too.

Does he get run-support from his offense? Shoot, he's probably better than what Freddy has been doing this season.

You wouldn't have been saying that about Freddy before his previous 2 outings.

Bobby Valentine's Chiba Lotte Marinees are 28-11 and in first place. Naoyuki Shimizu, the Marines' ace, has been cozying up to agent Don Nomura and telling folks he'd like to join Tadahito Iguchi with the White Sox next year. Hard-throwing righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka of Seibu, scouted this week by Kevin Towers and Fred UhlmanJr. of the Padres will be the most sought-after Japanes import this winter.

That is some good news. Hopefully we may be able to get him for a discount, like we did for Iguchi.

But really for this to happen, we'll have to move one of our starters, most likely Contreras. And then B-Mac is going to have to wait for another season, unless the Sox decide to move him into long relief like Neal Cotts to give him experience at the major league level.
