meeting the players

Usually if you hang out by Gate 6 after the game you can get an autograph or at least say hello to a player or two. I used to go over there just to see what kind of pimped out cars these rich bastards drive.

I have seen Frank Thomas stop in his Benz, roll down the window, and sign for kids more than once.

I think his license plate said "Longball"

Security prevents this now. Someone ran in front of Magglio's (IIRC) car last year and he almost hit them. They used to be very cool about signing there so that's a shame that someone ruined it.

I think they used to open 2 hrs before the game prior to 1998

Yea.. now that I am thinking about it.. I remember getting there right from work downtown in '96 and '97 and watching them. Maybe it would be something they would reconsider doing if there was fan request for it. :huh

I think the gates opening 1 1/2 hours b4 game time coincided with them allowing tailgating in the parking lots. I guess they figured people can spend that time outside tailgaiting instead of being inside the park for that extra half hour...I could be wrong :huh

Exactly... it was one of those attempts to draw back people after the strike.

I would think they would welcome the option of people eating and drinking in the park for another hour.. :huh

Wouldn't stop me from tailgating on the weekends.. and we would likely get there earlier on weekdays if we could get in the park.

I agree...at least on saturday and sunday the gates should open earlier...make it happen :D

And I better include Mr: :huh as he has made an appearance in each of our last four posts.

Ideally, they'd open the park 10 mins. before batting practice starts, have the Sox take BP 1st, then have them stretch, sprint and sign autographs while the visiting team takes BP.

Which owner was it that it MANDATORY for his entire team to sign autographs before every home game last year?

Speaking of BP.. on Friday Comcast will broadcast BP from Wrigley. No broadcasters.

That's an awesome idea.

Glad they're doing this, I'll have a tape running.

Why isn't Santo doing the call of BP?

"That's hit......IT HIT THE WALL........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.............NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..............we have a fax from Evelyn in Iowa......."

No idea.. :huh but thank God. Also, for those of you that don't know.. the games will be broadcast with both teams announcers. So you can listen to H&DJ or those 2 morons who call the Cubs games. I think one is on WGN and the other on Comcast.

Does that include the Saturday game which is on Fox?

I believe I heard the CSN will also televise Sunday's BP.

This opening the gates earlier idea should be bounced off of Brooks. I'm sure he spin it to his advantage if they changed the policy.

They could combo it with an 'early bird' special. For example, all concession food could 25% cheaper from the time the gates open to one hour before game time.
