Carl Everett

Aside from his 27 RBI's and not overwhelming 5 home runs, Carl Everett has been everything but good. I'll use Paul Konerko, a player most of us have fallen hard on, as a comparison. And to further the argument, I'll show Dye's stats as well.

All stats coming into May 16th

AB:

Konerko - 131

Everett - 122

Dye - 125

Average:

Konerko - .197

Everett - .270

Dye - .200

OBP:

Konerko - .338

Everett - .321

Dye - .248

RBI:

Konerko - 27

Everett - 27

Dye - 14

HR:

Konerko - 9 (1st on team)

Everett - 5 (3rd on team)

Dye - 6 (2nd on team)

R:

Konerko - 19 (one less than team lead)

Everett - 14

Dye - 12

OPS:

Konerko - .768

Everett - .761

Dye - .640

After typing all that out, I'm not sure I have much of a point. Maybe just that Everett has been highly overrated. Aside from his amount of RBI's, he really hasn't done jack s***. He doesn't get on base all that often, and doesn't score many runs (Well, Dye and Konerko have something to say about that). He's not exactly your prototypical 3 hitter, let alone 5 hitter. Unfortunately, neither are Konerko and Dye right now.

In conclusion, I have no point, I just miss Frank and think Carl Everett is overrated.

His GIDP was a killer tonight.

What pissed me off is Everett's stupid 2 strike swing on that DP. He knew he needed to hit a flyball, but if you look at the replay, he basically just guided the ball right to the SS. That's just not very smart baseball.

Does any of our hitters besides Iguchi and maybe the catchers deserve love?

When in the 2/3 hole, Rowand is as zoned in offensively as anyone we have...with Pods-Gooch-AaRow...thats a VERY solid 1-2-3......only problem is, we have the s***tiest 3-4-5 in the bigs.

Yeah, I'll agree. Aaron's comin' around (thank goodness), and Pods can get on base and do damage...

Good assessment. There's no other way to put it: K-nerko, Death, and Crazy are playing like s***.

Carl deserves all the love he's been getting, and much more. He's the only one in the middle of the order who has consistently been a tough out. No one has been protecting him.

If anyone doesn't deserve the love he's been getting, it's Konerko. I remember earlier in the season after Carl hit a big home run, he barely made it back to the dugout and the crowd was already chanting "Paulie, Paulie!"

Carl can come up to bat after hitting a home run or driving in a big run his previous at bat and get polite applause. Konerko can come up after striking out a few times and the crowd is chanting "Paulie!"

Anyway, if it weren't for Carl's hitting and his on the field and clubhouse leadership, the Sox wouldn't have 27 wins.

Except when was the last time Carl was a "tough out?" He's failed miserably with RISP w/ less than 2 outs for the past few weeks. His weak pops ups to 2B and DP's to SS are growing very old. Frank is needed and needed fast...

If you want to talk about no protection, then lets talk Konerko. The man has rarely walked in his career and is like 3rd in the league in walks. With Dye hitting behind him and now a struggling Everett, Pauly has had THE WORST protection on the team.

No one can argue that after Aaron the 4-5-6 and wherever Joe Crede is at just absolutely measn death to any Sox rally. Hopefully it won't be that way all year.

Carl was hitting third most of the year with sub .200 Konerko and Dye and struggling Rowand hitting behind him.

Sure Carl has been struggling a little, but his slumps don't last for weeks on end, and even when he's struggling he gets a few key hits and a home run scattered in there, like yesterday. Plus he's a bargain when you compare his production/salary to Konerko and Dye.
