I'd say it's one of two things:

 

1. Overzealousness because the Sox are the best team in the majors, or

2. Major bouts of depression when the best team in baseball loses a game

 

People should take a cue from the athletes - don't get too high from a win or too low from a loss. Celebrate (or suck it up) and move on!

Or maybe people actually believe that we can trade Jermaine Dye and Arnie Munoz for Bobby Abreu and Billy Wagner. Yet those same people can't tell me what position Abreu plays or what arm Wagner throws with.
