jackie hayes
Some British researchers have found that wearing red unis significantly increases men's probability of winning a close match/game/whatever, here's the article. I think they're comparing it to blue, mostly, so it doesn't change my mind that black is the real asswhupping color. At least the Royals now know what the first change has to be. (Dunno if this should go here or SLaP, but it is sports related. Feel free to move it.)
Goldmember
interesting that they did not choose a more diverse group of sports...
Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE(Goldmember @ May 18, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) interesting that they did not choose a more diverse group of sports... I don't "British Researches" really care about much else other than soccer.
Soxy
Would I be a huge dork if I said that I wanted to see their data and statistics? And if I pointed out the obvious, correlation does not equal causation? Edited May 18, 2005 by ChiSoxyGirl

southsider2k5
It sounds stupid, but yellow has always been my best color in softball.
DBAHO
Macnhester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all wear red. Quite an easy conclusion to make from that.

jackie hayes
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 19, 2005 -> 05:44 AM) This research is just plain dumb... im sorry but the color of your uniform doesnt make the team any better. Which is exactly their question -- obviously it doesn't make you any better, so why do red teams win more often? They they could have all the evidence in the world that red teams win more often, trillions of observations (other things equal), and you still wouldn't believe it? I find that hard to understand. I think I'll believe even the wackiest ideas, if you just pile up enough evidence beside them.

I don't think that's the claim.. I think it's the reaction to the color of the uniform.
LosMediasBlancas
Interesting. :headshake You'd think SEEING red, or an opposing red uni. would get you more fired up.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. As per the selection being random, I don't know. But I think for this to be totally valid they should do it across ALL Olympic sports, team/single/etc. Heck, maybe even go for non-Olympic Sports like professional ones over here.... Then I would be FAAAAAAAAAAR more willing to accept

Then I would be FAAAAAAAAAAR more willing to accept I don't know either, just something mentioned in an article about this. But the researchers can't really control the uniforms, and I doubt most pro teams would be willing to randomize their unis in the name of science. If the jerseys really were assigned at random, that sounds like a pretty good trial. Less 'violent' sports might be an interesting test. Problem is the uniforms usually aren't dictated by officials in those.

But maybe at lower levels (semi-pro, college, high school) that would happen--if someone else footed the bill...
Jake
I wonder why so few sports...think they only chose ones with a lot of red winners?

Juventus, Real Madrid, Rangers, they dont have Red in their uniform. My soccer posses red in their uniform, they are the best in my state but it doesnt mean s***. It is just coincidence! Because it was a british researcher who did it. It would be the same thing if it was a American researcher, he would just pick his nation's important sports such as Baseball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, even softball and wouldnt consider soccer. In AZ there is a maximum security prision in which all the inmates wear pink outfits and underwear. The pink has been proven to be a calming color and emasculating for agressive personalities. Do you honestly think that if the sox wore pink, they would be taken as serious as all black?
SuperSteve
I actually saw this article through a wrestling site, and who knows. It's not saying everyone who wears red will win, and everyone who wears blue will lose. Keep in mind, there are only two colors in the sports they chose, red and blue.
