southsider2k5
QUOTE(greg775 @ May 19, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) I hope it's not a full 20 game rehab if his ankle feels fine after a week. Why 20 games?? Think of it as spring training.

Jabroni
Also, don't forget about the interleague games coming up. Bringing back Frank to pinch hit wouldn't be a complete waste but it may be better for him to get more at bats with the Knights and run and his ankle some more. I doubt he will every be playing 1st base for us this season or maybe ever again. It's just not worth the risk. He will be eligible to come back on June 6th after his 20 days of rehab but we will be at the start of two away interleague series at Colorado and San Diego. I'm betting that Frank's first game back will be on June 13th at home against the D-Backs. Edited May 19, 2005 by Jabroni

Jabroni
How did he look running in game 2? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The article didn't mention his running... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws "First at-bat I got to do what I wanted to do and got the ball to right field and moved the guys over. I know that's what we're doing a lot of in Chicago right now," Thomas said. "Second at-bat was another good at-bat. I thought it was going to be a hit, but he robbed me. Then the lefty did a good of mixing it up and got me out front a couple of times. I was happy with that. You need some failure along the way too so it was good." Thomas went to the right side again in his final at-bat to collect a single. He hasn't pulled the ball once during his two games with the Knights. What a stud. With Iguchi being able to go opposite field all the time and Frank doing the same, our offense could go on a tear. Frank needs to teach Paulie a friggin' lesson. :headshake Edited May 19, 2005 by Jabroni

greasywheels121
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines Thomas plays small ball Goes 1-for-5 with 2 strikeouts but says he's moving 'forward' By Bob Foltman OTTAWA -- Frank Thomas woke up Wednesday morning after playing his first game in 10 months, and his left ankle was not the size of his thigh. Not that Thomas was worried about that, or about experiencing any pain walking, running or doing anything baseball-related. "I have to stop worrying about it and just move forward," he said Wednesday night after going 1-for-5 with a single and two strikeouts in his second appearance with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. The only pain in Thomas' debut Tuesday was in watching him lumber around the bases. Thomas did far more running than he expected in his 2-for-3 opener. So much running, in fact, that he opted out of his last at-bat in the ninth inning. He didn't have that problem Wednesday, being lifted for a pinch-runner after singling in the ninth. The important thing for Thomas and the Sox was he was in the lineup on consecutive days and felt fine. "Tonight was good," he said. "I got to see some pitches. Guys mixed it up well. The first at-bat I got to do what I wanted to do—drive the ball to right field and move the guys over. That's what we're doing in Chicago now." Thomas said his halting performance on the bases Tuesday was partly because he didn't want to push himself too much too soon and he was wearing shoes that are a half-size too big. Thomas normally wears a size 14, but the brace he wears on his left ankle requires a shoe a half-size bigger. Nike, the brand Thomas wears, doesn't make half-sizes that large—until now, at least—forcing Thomas to go to a size 15. Thomas will be getting a proper size shoe, but it takes about a month for it to be made. Thomas predicted some at-bats would be ugly. And those came Wednesday night, when he had two strikeouts—one looking, another swinging—against left-hander Brian McNichol. "You need some failure along the way here, so that was good," Thomas said. Every time Thomas has put the ball in play it has been from center to right field. When he has been hot during his career, he has done a lot of his damage going the opposite way. "That's something I want to lock in on," he said. "I know we're doing it in Chicago now, and I don't want to break from that chemistry that we have right now." Even though he didn't experience the same kind of statistical success he had Tuesday, Thomas said in many ways Wednesday was a better night. "The instincts were kicking in," he said. "Twice I got out of an at-bat and didn't think about running. It was more instinctive. That's how I want to feel. Hopefully it will continue where that instinct will kick in and I'll have that burst again." Befitting a superstar, Thomas treated his teammates to a postgame locker-room spread of chicken, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad and cheesecake. "I know we're doing it in Chicago now, and I don't want to break from that chemistry that we have right now." This is one of the things I wanted to hear from Frank. The loudest, most insufferable heckler was at the game last night sitting only a few seats from me. Right next to the Sox dugout. I was praying someone would shank a foul ball off his coconut. He was removed by security around the 5th or 6th. Apparently he used to do the same thing at Expo games. Frank laughed at his antics and talked to him a little. He had some of the guys shaking their head. He had a decent percentage of the crowd laughing at what he was saying. Unfortunately, after he was removed, a few drunk college-aged kiddies thought it would be cool to follow in his unrelenting, arrogant footsteps. They were especially rough on Borchard for his "5.3" and sub .200 average. Once Joe picked up a foul ball and they gave him a standing ovation. Needless to say this all started after Joe hit his 400+ foot home run. And Raul Casanova took a lot of crap, simply because his name can easily be screamed in howling, wolflike manner. ottawa_sox
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 19, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) How did he look running in game 2? He didn't have much opportunity to run, with his 1 for 5. After the game, he said the following to a local reporter, concerning his ankle: "I'm at that point now where I'm going to stop worrying about it. I'm more concerned with being the hitter I'm capable of being". To me, he has looked like someone who is running with his ankle on his mind. Just being really careful. I am going to try to ask him for a 0 to 10 reading on the pain tonight (if I get a chance).

I'm even a size 14 in Nike's.
WHarris1
Frank 0-1 in the early going of his third game. Also...Norton...you're still the greatest! 2nd inning 2 run shot Knights lead 2-
Guest JimH
It's 2-2 now, runners on 2nd and 3rd for Ottawa. Robert Person appears to be pitching ok but there have been a few dribblers, etc. Greg Norton and Trace Coquillette just screwed up a grounder to the right side, it went into RF for a base hit, 2 runs scored. 4-2 for Ottawa, end of 3rd inning. BTW, I like this Charlotte Knights announcer, he's very good. If you listen online you can hear all the chit chat between innings.
Guest JimH
Frank Thomas up now. He takes two quick balls, now it's 3-0. He drills a hard single to LF on the 3-1 pitch. Brian Anderson up, I'll update here for a while.

Guest JimH
Brian Anderson down 0-2. Knights announcer says Frank isn't worried about ankle pain, just getting into game shape. Frank hasn't felt any sharp pain. Anderson forces Thomas at 2nd.
Guest JimH
Anderson hustled to stay out of the DP. Greg Norton up now.
Guest JimH
Greg Norton fouls out, Jamie Burke up. He lined out in his first at bat. Geez, Frank knows a lot of his teammates down there.
Guest JimH
Burke works the count to 3-2 but grounds out to SS. Middle of the 4th, Charlotte losing 4-2.
Guest JimH
The Knights lineup is Raul Casanova, Greg Norton at 1B, Coquilette at 2B, Ricky Gutierrez at SS, Jamie Burke 3B, Roosevelt Brown LF, Anderson CF, Borchard RF. Person has walked 4 guys plus one intentional walk. He just walked the leadoff guy and Raul Casanova pegged him out trying to steal. Person described as erratic tonite in terms of control. I'll say. Guest JimH
Hey I guess Roosevelt Brown has the same one handed catch style like Timo. He just caught a fly out for the 2nd out. Announcer says two of Ottawa's hits were broken bats, and a grounder that should have been handled between 1st and 2nd. Liner to Burke, 3 out. Borchard up this next 1/2. Guest JimH
Geezus, Borchard 1st pitch swinging, grounds out to 2nd. Raul Casanova and Trace Coquilette up this inning, and then to the top of the order to Ricky Gutierrez who's hitting leadoff for Charlotte. Guest JimH
This Ottawa pitcher knows what he's doing, John Mayne (sp?), 6th round choice 2002. Rated 6th best Orioles prospect. He just fooled Casanova for a K. He has struck out five, and now he walks his first hitter. Two out, one on for Ricky Gutierrez.
Guest JimH
Charlotte has a 5 1/2 to 6 hour bus trip back across the border to Buffalo after tomorrow nite's game. Announcer expects to get into downtown Buffalo about 3 a.m. Gutierrez K's, middle of 5, 4-2 Ottawa.
