ottawa_sox
Frank went 1 for 4 tonight. He hit the ball hard all 4 times up. For the first time he pulled the ball. Once for a single plus 2 hard shots to third. He also lined out to 2nd. He continues to run at what I would estimate to be 2/3 to 3/4 speed. When he was on first with his single, Norton hit a routine grounder to the shortstop. Frank was forced at second and made it about 80% of the way to second. Norton beat out the relay. Person was a little wild, but was effective except for a 4 run 3rd. He was victimized by a bouncer to first that skipped over Norton because the sun got in his eyes. That's right a sun-aided bouncer. Norton just turned his head and could not see a thing. Otherwise it was a 2 run inning. Brian Anderson hit the ball hard once in 4 at bats, flying out to the warning track in right in the 9th. Frank hid from the public eye more so than yesterday and all I could get from him was that his ankle "felt good". This was from the on-deck circle. Juan Nieves, the pitching coach, felt he would be in Charlotte for 20 days at least and more if possible. He said the parent club was doing so well he wasn't sure where Frank would fit in at the moment. He reitereated that Dye, Konerko and Everett were very valuable. When Frank can put his head down and push for his maximum speed, is the day his minor league stint is in serious jeapordy. He already looks to be a serious hitting threat. Much appreciated. You're both very welcome. I can't wait for the Baldwin/McCarthy matchup tomorrow. I think I'll have my 5 year old son with me, so it might be a struggle to keep him intrested for the whole game. But I've got seats right by the Knights on-deck circle for the 4th straight day, so I hope to have some more decent shots for everyone. Jabroni
Good news... "Big Hurt hits single, reports no pain Goes 1-for-4, has no swelling in ankle during work" http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws OTTAWA, Canada -- Frank Thomas only had one hit Thursday night as the Charlotte Knights fell 5-2 to the Ottawa Lynx, but he had four solid at-bats. During his third day of rehab with the Knights, Thomas went 1-foot-4 and is now hitting .333 with a walk and two runs scored. He was pleased with everything about the game, especially Lynx starting pitcher John Maine. "I was impressed with the starter. He threw the ball real well and he's got good stuff. Definitely an above-average slider. I see a future for him, and he's definitely got big league stuff." Only two Knights got a hit off Maine, including Thomas, who singled to the left side leading off the fourth inning. He also lined out to second base, third base and hit a screamer to third that would have been a base hit under normal circumstances. Thomas though, is still not running anywhere near full strength. "This is what I was hoping to have happen down here -- just hit the ball hard," he said. "We're not worried about results, but it's just good to mix in a hit every now and then. I really just want to stay on the baseball and hit it to all fields. Do that, and a lot of the other stuff will take care of itself." Thomas is not having any pain or swelling with the ankle and he was a little more agile during batting practice. He was working different situations on the base paths, not just taking cuts in the cage. "I got a little sore in BP," Thomas said. "I did a lot of running in BP, but today was the first time I was able to work and have fun, run the bases and work on my leads."
