qwerty
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) When did I say he's doing good?? He's been terrible, I'm saying his fastball still has a lot of sink on it but yes you're right when he's thrown it, it has been down the middle of the plate and that is one reason he's been getting hit, however he still needs to use it more to set up his slider which is his best pitch. You didn't but to say his fastball has had alot of movement this year is just silly as hell to me. If his movement was so great he would get some people to chase his pitches. Instead they just sit there and wave at the pitches as they go by them no where near the zone. 95 mile an hour vizcaino = solid. 91-92 mile an vizcaino = makes my head hurt watching him pitch. Well we're just going to have to agree to disagree, imo his fastball still has plenty of movement he's just getting it in the wrong spots and not throwing it enough, we'll just leave it at that. witesoxfan
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) He hits 91-92 now when he use to throw 95 consistently. Three miles is a huge difference unless you are extremely good which we cannot say that much for vizcaino. He is surely not trevor hoffman or anyone or that ilk that has lost velocity and was still as good as ever. A pitcher losing velocity on his pitches when coming to the Sox? Where have I heard that before? Jesus f***

Bartolo Colon 1.18 WHIP Newcomers in the Top 20: Freddy Garcia, Matt Morris, Andy Pettite, Chris Young, Cliff Lee The Sox still have 3 pitchers in the Top 20, although Freddy Garcia has taken the place of Jose Contreras. Jose fell all the way down to #29 overall after getting his ass handed to him by Arizona. Houston can match us with 3 starters in the Top 20 in Clemens, Oswalt, and Pettite, but we're the only team in the majors with 4 starters in the Top 30. That is insane. Arlington is murder on pitchers, and yet, Kenny Rogers and Chris Young have WHIP ratios of 1.15 or better through the middle of June. I thought that Cliff Lee was a stroke, but he's making me eat my words. Sabathia is itching to get into the Top 20 with a 1.19 WHIP. Top 10 WHIP list for closers with no minimum IP: 1. Kalapse
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Update Minimum: 60 IP 2. Johan Santana 0.89 WHIP 16. My relief pitching is ridiculously dominate. Normally Bedard is in the top 20 but he's on the DL so I'd normally have 3 starters.
hammerhead johnson
Chris Carpenter pitched a CG shutout against the Blue Jays yesterday, giving up only one hit and one walk. His WHIP is now 1.21, so I'll be expecting him to crack the Top 20 when I update this thread in a couple weeks. Chris might be the best-kept secret in all of baseball right now. His last two starts combined: 7 IP, 13 ER, 18 H, 4 BB. Yikes. Time for Brett to come waaaay back down to Earth. Cris Carpenter, on the other hand, has been sensational. His last three starts combined: 26 IP, 1 ER, 9 H, 3 BB. This is his first appearance in the Top 20, and he shot right up to #11 overall. The Sox (Buehrle, Garland, Garcia) and the Astros (Clemens, Oswalt, Pettite) have three starters apiece in the Top 15, and two starters apiece in the Top 10. That is insane. Sabathia was on the verge of breaking into the Top 20 back on June 14, but he's been absolutely terrible since then.

Paul Byrd? Someone tell me about this guy, because there are some things that I could just never understand. We're taliing about a pitcher that no knowledgeable baseball head would have drafted in any fantasy league. I think back to his days with the Royals. Pedro Martinez and Roger Clemens continue to have legendary years. They're two of the Top 10 pitchers in the history of major league baseball, that is damn near unquestionable at this point. Chris Carpenter just keeps coming, y'all. Now he's starting the All Star game? Wow.
Balta1701
How has Santana stayed on that list when he hasn't won a game in June? Has every hit he gives up left the park or something like that? Buehrle will move back up the list now that he's done with the A's. Probably Garland too.
hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) How has Santana stayed on that list when he hasn't won a game in June? Has every hit he gives up left the park or something like that? Two of his past three starts have been absolutely terrible, but he's only lost roughly 1/10 of a point off of his WHIP since June 27 (from 0.96 to 1.05). This is just presumptuous on my part, but perhaps he is pitching through an injury right now. That would be outstanding news for Sox fans. Maybe a more knowledgeable baseball man that I can chime in and explain what the deal is with Johan.

John Smoltz 1.14 WHIP 19. Josh Beckett 1.15 WHIP 20. Barry Zito 1.16 WHIP Newcomers: Rich Harden, John Smoltz, Barry Zito Barry Zito has had 6 straight remarkable starts, taking his ERA down from 4.66 to 3.55. Rich Harden qualifies for the first time with a dynamite WHIP ratio of 1.01. Dontrelle Willis fell from #10 overall to #28 overall. Freddy Garcia also took a dive, falling 13 places from #18 to #31. For the first time since May, there are no White Sox starters in the Top 10. Brett Myers is finally out of there after 4 months. He is currently at 1.17, so he could be back in two weeks from now. He has been kick-ass this year. I had no idea that he could be this good.
