BHAMBARONS
Charlotte @ Ottawa BMAC on the hill West Tennessee @ Birmingham Malone on the hill Kinston @ Winston-Salem Delmarva @ Kannapolis The Barons face the Best team in the SL and in West Tenn which is a battle of Sox's Cubs southern league style. Facing side-winder Jye-Ryu a very tough pitcher which Barons really struggled with on May 3rd. And a very tough lineup i still believe if Felix Pie will be challenging Patterson for the CF Job soon. I have seen both players and Pie is the better player. Power to all fields, Very good batting eye great, leadoff hitter, tons of speed and a very good bunter a fine player the Barons will have there work cut out for them. maggsmaggs
huh? Care to elaborate?
danman31
Something is fishy there. BMac didn't start, but Brian McNichol (former White Sox minor leaguer, solid with Barons last year) also started. Munoz and McNichol are both making their first starts of the season. I would guess a doubleheader, but the game is already past the 7th. It's odd, that's for sure. MnSoxFan
Malone drilled Felix Pie in the head with a pitch tonight. Down and motionless for a while yet stayed in the game.

Guest JimH
Birmingham and West Tenn are tied 2-2 after 5 innings, I just listened to Ryan Sweeney strike out to end the 5th. Listen here: http://www.wdxi.com
Guest JimH
Corwin Malone has gone all five innings thus far, actually 5 2/3 as I listen LOL. Encouraging. BJ LaMura is warming in the bullpen. Malone has walked two plus one intentional. As I listen he just walked a guy on 4 pitches. Edited May 21, 2005 by JimH
Guest JimH
Malone is working fast, he just threw a good curveball, the West Tenn announcer was impressed. He just struck out a guy to end the inning. Malone has gone 6 innings.
Guest JimH
Rogowski, Josh Fields, and Blakely up, I will update this inning.
Guest JimH
Wow, quickman's man crush Casey Rogowski hit a gapper and turned on the jets to turn it into a leadoff triple. The crowd at Hoover Met is lively. Josh Fields to the plate. This West Tenn announcer is damn good too ... just like the Charlotte guy last nite. Fields draws a nice walk in a patient AB. Darren Blakely up now. The announcer says the Cub farmhand Jae Hyu has thrown 86 pitches so far.
Guest JimH
Blakely beats out a fielders choice, nice takeout side by Josh Fields, love it. Rogowski scores, 3-2 Barons. On the slide, the announcer goes "nice takeout slide by Josh Fields, he came in hard and put the 2B on his wallet". Andy Gonzalez grounds into a forceout on a nice play by the West Tenn SS, the announcer says Blakely was forced out "by a gnats eyelash". Now they are having a radio public service announcement about not drinking and driving ... they paint a picture of what jail would be like ... "and there's nice hot showers ... as a group activity" Edited May 21, 2005 by JimH
Guest JimH
BJ Lamura in for the Barons in the top of the 7th. West Tenn announcer says the Southern League is hitting less than .140 against LaMura. Malone went 6 innings, one earned run, two K's, 3 walks, one intentional. LaMura K's the first batter no problem. Now their stud CF prospect Felix Pie is up. Guest JimH
La Mura promptly K's Felix Pie. Maybe I should listen to these games more often
Guest JimH
La Mura then does what Tom says is his problem, he gets 0-2 on a guy and then nibbles and throws 4 straight balls and walks him.
Guest JimH
LaMura walks another guy and pitching coach Richard Dotson comes out to get into LaMura's kitchen. West Tenn announcer says there's no internet access in the Barons press box, so he has no way of responding to emails. 7300+ fans at Birmingham tonite. LaMura throws his 2nd wild pitch of the inning, runners at 2nd and 3rd ... West Tenn announcer says West Tenn has "turkey on the table". LaMura leaves that turkey on the table ... he K's the West Tenn hitter to get out of the inning. 3-2 Barons into bottom of 7. danman31
As said, Knights lost 5-1. Anderson 1-3 with a double, walk, and a run. Frank 0-3. Baj ERA= 0.47 Box Score 'Hogs win 5-3. Collaro has a dozen HRs on the year now. Nice start by Dizard, 6 IP, 2 R, 7 K. Wasserman scoreless inning streak: 18. Box Score
Guest JimH
Jerry Owens up for the Barons now in the bottom of the 7th ... he is having a good at bat here, he's seen a lot of pitches. He gets on base with an error by the SS. West Tenn announcer says "runner on first, pitcher looking for a ground ball to turn the ham and egger". He sounds like Hawk Lite. Chris Young pinch hitting for Corey Haggerty. Edited May 21, 2005 by JimH
Guest JimH
Chris Young with a lengthy at bat, fouling several pitches off on the 3-2 count. Including one that almost takes out the radio announcer. Young strikes out on a called third strike after a 10 pitch at bat. Now Sweeney is up with 2 outs and Owens on 2B. Sweeney drills a shot off the 3B into short left field, the SS throws home and gets Owens out at the plate, 5-6-2 for the 3rd out. Apparantly a great play by the catcher to block the plate and get Owens. Still 3-2 going into bottom of 8.

Guest JimH
There is a chick umpire behind the plate and apparantly she doesn't get along too well with Razor Shines, the Barons manager. She took off the mask and is yakking it up with Shines. Don't know what it's about. West Tenn has a guy on and Barons are bringing in Paulino Reynoso.
Guest JimH
Oh wow, here is the deal ... The chick umpire, Reah Cortesia, did not announce the pinch hitter for West Tenn, so the player he pinch hit for could've have technically still played. That's why Razor Shines was pissed. The West Tenn announcer admits it was a big screw up by the home plate ump. Anyway ... Reynoso promptly gets the West Tenn hitter to ground into an inning ending DP (or "ham and egger" as the announcer says). Into the bottom of the 8th Barons lead 3-2. Rogowski, Fields, and Blakely up.
