Former Sox Player D. Jimenez

Reds designated infielder D'Angelo Jimenez for assignment.

Can Eric Milton be far behind? OK, maybe that's a reach. Jimenez has a $2.87 million contract, so he'll clear waivers. It's a pretty gutsy move for the Reds. Jimenez was awful in 35 games this year, but he was pretty good in 225 games for the team prior to the season. He's still decent enough to start at second for some teams and there will be plenty of interest in him if he becomes a free agent. The Reds will go with Ryan Freel at second base for now and they could rotate Felipe Lopez between the middle-infield spots after Rich Aurilia returns. Not only is this good news for Freel, but it also helps Austin Kearns, as Freel should no longer get any outfield at-bats

Seems like the Reds won't miss him:

From Chicagosports.com

Reds glad ex-Sox player gone

When the White Sox traded D'Angelo Jimenez in July 2003, then-manager Jerry Manuel said: "He struggled every now and then with some lapses. [but] anytime a guy leaves here, I always hope for the best for them."

It's not happening for Jimenez, whose recent demotion to the minors was met with approval in the clubhouse.

Danny Graves said it best: "When you don't want to try and you don't want to try to get better, there are guys in the minors who do. That attitude can become a cancer. D'Angelo didn't have the attitude that I'm going to help the team. If a guy isn't going to try to contribute, why keep him around?"

Jimenez was hitting .229 with no homers and five RBIs in 35 games with the Reds.

HAHA!

From the Cincinnati paper today:

"Ryan Freel didn't know D'Angelo Jimenez was still going to be part of the Reds' organization when he said what he said on Sporting News Radio Thursday.

"I don't have anything good to say about the guy to be personally honest with you. He is a cancer in every single clubhouse that he goes to," Freel said."

I thought that Koch was one standup guy. He lost whatever it was that made him great for a season, never made excuses, never ducked from responsibility. I like the guy and wish him luck.

I agree 100%. Koch was always a standup guy. I don't obsess about a guy sucking, but it pisses me off when a guy thinks he is bigger than his team or the game itself.

He accepted assignment to AA Chatanooga....

LOOKOUT

Why would the Reds even want him in the minor leagues? I sure wouldn't want him around developing minor leaguers if he's as bad a clubhouse guy as they say he is.

The Reds probably DON'T want him. They designated him for assigment much like we did to Ben Davis. No one claimed him either. Jimenez could have chosen to become a free agent but he would have to give up his $2.87 million salary. He isn't stupid. No other team would have given him that much if he became a free agent.

jimenez would be a good fit with the royals or cubs

Why the Cubs? They have Todd Walker and Jerry Hairston to play 2nd base. Jimenez can play SS but the Cubs have Neifi Perez playing out of his mind right now. The Royals would never take on Jimenez's $2.87 million salary.

But, why don't they just release him now? If I was gonna have to pay his salary, I'd rather pay it to him w/o him influencing my minor leaguers in negative ways.
