Billy Wagner Piece

From the Daily Times;

Closer Billy Wagner knows that the Phillies’ challenging, nine-game road trip to Baltimore, Florida and Atlanta will tell volumes about the team.

He also knows it could have a big impact on whether he stays with the Phillies for the remainder of the season or becomes enticing trade bait for contending teams desperate for a stud closer.

"I’ve been around long enough to know there’s a possibility (of a trade)," said Wagner. "There’s no getting around that. All I can do for now is worry about getting people out.

"The way I look at it is that I’m doing the best I can for this team."

Wagner is privy to the closer needs that are out there, rattling off a couple of the teams by name. The White Sox and Braves are having problems with ineffectiveness. The Diamondbacks got a great April from Brandon Lyon, but now he’s on the disabled list.

General manager Ed Wade said that he hasn’t received any calls concerning Wagner, although he has little doubt that there are several teams out there with interest.

"The other teams know Billy’s situation," Wade said. "But I think it is preconceived that we aren’t going to be interested in doing something like that (at this time). There’s no question that if we got in that position we would start getting those calls.

"If we’re going to win this, we’re going to do it with the guy who we wish we had as our closer all of last season."

Hermanson has an ERA of 0.00. That's ineffective? The writer of this article needs to find a new profession.

I am sure their "expert" wroter is referring to Shingo and maybe Vizcaino. Hermy obviously has been great. Politte also and for the most part Marte.

Our bullpen has been spectacular then aggravating at times.

Hermy has been all that and more, but other than him.. really who's done anything? Marte has shown flashes, but thats Marte. Pollitte has been pretty good too. But, Shingo has been pretty much figured out and Cotts is terrrible. Vizciano really helped himself with taht Texas Rangers performance he put on a week ago, if we bring in Wagner we never have to see Cotts or Shingo again, and we see a little less of the erratic Marte (who honestly scares me a lot).

well since he wouldnt cost 9 million because we would only being paying him for half the year i think you need to lower your number.... Also if Wagner comes to us we would possibly have the best bullpen in baseball which is important in the playoffs... he would replace Cotts so thats one helluva upgrade.

Yeah, I took it as a whole for the bullpen, also technically Shingo was considered the Sox closer, so I could see it considered a commitee even though we know it's not.
