I'm Going to Denver for the June series

I took the debit card and the check book away from my wife and bought tickets to June 7th and 8th in Denver when the Sox play the Rockies. I am as excited as a Billy Goat with 2... Well you know what I mean :P

I have tickets to the right of home plate and just a bit up from the lowest level. It is about a nine hour drive, but worth it. I am hoping the Big Hurt is back by that series, but no matter it will be great. Anyone else out West here that is going? :gosox1:

Anyone got it figured out what our starting rotation might be for the Rockies series?

If the rotation holds true it'll be Contreras, El Duque, and Garland in that order.

I will be very happy to see El Duque and Garland, but I wonder if it might now be McCarthy instead? I will be there for the Tues and Wed games.

We drove to Boulder a few years ago and it took 10 hours just to get there (overnight driving).. Denver is only about an hour further.. but just in case maybe plan the drive with a bit of extra driving time in case you need it. Have fun.

Thanks Steff! I will have fun I am sure. Got a downtown hotel on Priceline at $50 off the listed rate. My next hope is I can get to Seattle in August to see the Sox play. I also want to make it to Chicago, but if you drive it's 2 days on the road. But, I told my blushing bride that we are going to do it anyway.

My brother (the infamous Thomsonmi) and I will be there.  If you've never been to Coors Field, its a hell of a place.  Its even got a Microbrewery!

Not to mention Rocky Mountain Oysters. Seriously.

I don't know what speed you were driving, but it took me almost 16 straight-thru Chicago to Fort Collins.

10 is definitely illegally fast. Considering it took almost 8 hours for me to get across just Nebraska. (that state never ends.)

It does literally never end...and I-80 covers every mile of its width.

IIRC, it does take alot longer than 10 hours....

Cruise on 85 the entire way, only stopped for gas & potty twice. :huh

I've been going to Colorado my whole life and we've never made it under 15 hours, and thats driving straight through.

As for places to go, may I suggest the Falling Rock Tap House. Right down the street from Coors Field. Great assortment of beers.

Our Timelok trucks make it within the 12 hour drive "on" restricted by the DOT.. it's doable.

I'm not doubting you. It would make my trips there a whole lot more tolerable if I could cut them by 3 or 4 hours. I wish there was a way to bypass Nebraska all together. It lasts an eternity and it smells like cow s***. I'm not kidding, the whole friggin state smells like cow s***.

They might as well just merge Iowa and Nebraska anyway. I've yet to tell the difference.

(apologies in advance to all you Iowa and Nebraska lovers out there)

I can't tell where the runs start from but one goes 10 hours and 51 minutes and the other 11 hours and 44 minutes. I don't remember the way we drove.. I don't remember Nebraska being that long - although this was 6 years ago and now I get ticked driving the 30+ miles to the Cell screaming it's too long some times

One likey starts right at the Central Illinois Iowa border since we have a large agent there.. and another likely closer to the Northern Illinois border since a lot of shipments come from Wisconsin. Now I'm all intrigued.. I'm going to have to ask someone in Ops.

I'm the brother who lives in Colorado. And, Coors Field is a great place to see a game. If the rotation holds I'll be watching Garland from 14 row directly behind home plate.

I highly recommend Falling Rock Taphouse for you beer lovers. For food there a Vesta Grill down Blake Street from the park that's fantastic. If you like Jazz music you gotta hit El Chapultepec on Tuesday or Wednesday night after the game.

My brother and I intend to be at all three games. Hopefully, the thin air will help some of our batting averages.

I've done the drive about two hundred times (no kidding) and the best I've done from Boulder to Elk Grove Village is just under 14 hours. It's about 2 1/2 hours to the Illinois border. About 4 1/2 hours in Iowa. About 5 1/2 hours in Nebraska. And, 2 hours in Colorado.

And, yes, Nebraska smells like cow s***.

There's a reason so many Nebraska football fans live in Colorado and no Colorado football fans live in Nebraska.

Nebraska sucks.

I loved Coors Field. Saw Bichette hit for the cycle there. Staff is friendly, food is good. General ballpark neighborhood leaves a little to be desired, but the area around the ESPNZone is fun.

There were some Iowans we saw out there. We agree that the only problem with going to Colorado is Nebraska. It's Iowa, only worse. Much worse.

I actually love what they call Lo-Do (Lower Downtown), the area around Coors Field. In the early nineties it was basically all abandoned wearhouses, now its the place to be on Friday/Saturday nights in Denver. Now, its not Chicago as Denver isn't even 1/4 the size of Chicago but for a small town its a pretty nice area.

And, I've always hoped that Chicago would do to the area around the Cell what Denver did in building around Coors Field. It seems that a city like Chicago would have the resources to invest in a community like that. Especially, when the Mayor is a White Sox fan. :gosoxretro:
