Talking about re-signing Konerko, he says he talked to Konerko in spring and said let's win, and see how the contract situation plays out.

KW also said he does not know if they can or will keep the team together financially, if they win it'll be easier.

He said they love Konerko but need to see how things go. Sounds like a good approach to me, they're focusing on 2005 right now.

Main priority will be a long term deal with Garland IMO. I think they could move Dye to 1B after the season and let Konerko walk with Frank taking DH, Everett/Anderson in RF.

Interesting.

I really haven't given it too much thought as my focus is totally on 2005, this team has a chance to win.

But, to play along, I think if the Sox go deep into October you'll see Konerko re-signed. If not, my guess is they'll plug a lefthanded bat in over there via trade. I do not see Carl coming back at this point, they want to make room for Anderson and who knows, Sweeney may be knocking at the door too.

Going with my assumption for a second, that means Carl's LH bat is gone and the logical place for a LH bat is 1B. I do not think that LH bat will be Gload. Thomas IMO will be re-signed and he may play occasionally at 1B but there will be one additional guy brought in. I see it as someone from the outside, not Gload or Rogowski.

They will keep the pitching staff together with a few minor tweaks like Shingo being gone, maybe change the bullpen a bit. Friend of SoxTalk Timo Perez will not be here next year and could be gone a lot sooner.

A big wild card is Sweeney, not to harp on him, but he is coming fast.

Erubiel Durazo is an option.

I'd like to see Jon and AJ signed long term before anything else. The idea with Dye at first is definitely an interesting one. Anderson is going to be starting next year, no doubt about it. Basically the one major place there is going to be an opening is first depending on what happens with Pauly. Anyways, there is going to be some serious range in the outfield next year.

I'd like to see Pods move to the DH spot and if you have an OF have Dye, Rowand, Anderson next year (If Thomas is gone). Pods is an AWFUL defensive left fielder.

I disagree completely. I've seen scott maybe misjudge 1 ball this season, for the most part he's got pretty good reads and jumps on balls and made almost every play. I'll give you the fact that he has no arm but that's why he's in left. Anyways, difference of opinion I guess.

I can't remember 2 plays this year where Pods didn't make a play someone else could have...

Agreed. Pods may make some plays look uglier than they should be, but he gets the job done. It's the same as Timo w/ his ugly one handed grabs.

There was a ball hit yesterday to pods that probably would have been a double if he wasn't out there. His speed cuts gaps immensely. That puts him AT LEAST to an average fielder.

Dye at 1B? Interesting. I would think a healthy Ross Gload would be an option. As well as, letting Everett walk and keeping Dye in RF.

No way. You need some serious offense out of 1B, especially the Sox. Pauly is so important to this offense. If he isn't going to be resigned, we need to replace him with someone of similar offense.

What??? Speed is great and this team is built around it, but we need SOME power. To put Pods at DH would be a terrible idea. 1B and DH is where the Sox are able to supply their power.

we also need to consider difference in production playing on the field and staying warm versus being the DH. this seems especially important for a rythym and speed guy like Pods.

He actually looked good out there today. But the Pods I've seen all year has just gotten horrid jumps and I've seen quite a few balls land a few feet in front of him that the average to above average cf gets.

Maybe part of it is he's learning to get the reads from left field instead of cf, but until today I had not been in the least bit impressed with him. I did really like that running catch he made while dodging Uribe though.

Isnt Kevin Millar a f/a to be... i wouldnt mind us pursuing him... I like Konerko and all but he isnt that good and I dont think he is worth the money he will want 8-10 million.

Guys I think we should let go after this season:

Everett, Timo, Shingo, Vizcaino, Contreras, and Dye

Some of those would have to be in trades and i guess if Dye can play 1B he could stay there.. But I think B-Mac and Brian Anderson should both be starters next year.

Also anyone know Sean Casey's contract status... because I think he would be the perfect 1B for us.

C: AJ Pieryznski

1B: Durazo/Millar/Casey

2B: Tadahito Iguchi

SS: Juan Uribe

3B: Joe Crede(Fields isnt ready yet, although wouldnt mind signed a veteran to a 1 year deal)

LF: Scott Podsenick

CF: Brian Anderson

RF: Aaron Rowand

DH: Frank Thomas

Starters:

1: Mark Buehrle

2: Freddy Garcia

3: Jon Garland

4: B-Mac

5: El Duque

emergency starter: Heath Miller(would be in AAA)

bullpen:

Politte, Hermy, Marte, Cotts, Baj, ???

basicly we should be shopping for a new 1B and maybe a bullpen arm or two this off-season.

I'm assuming your referring to Heath Phillips in AAA? However I'd say Tracey would be the better option.

yeah i meant Heath Phillips being in AAA and if a starter goes down him being called up.... I guess Tracey could be that guy too, but he really didnt impress me in spring training(which really doesnt mean much). I think his future could be in the bullpen.

Kevin Millar has hit for pretty much no power this year. He's a great clubhouse guy, but I don't think he'll be our main target.

Erubiel Durazo is one of Beane's love childs. And he pretty much can't field at 1B. He's a DH specialist, so we'll have to see what happens with Thomas and Konerko.

My guy I'd go after since we're naming them, J.T Snow. Lefty bat, won't break the bank, hits for a high average and a gold glove first baseman.
